{"id":641217,"date":"2026-10-01T03:26:12","date_gmt":"2026-10-01T03:26:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/641217\/"},"modified":"2026-10-01T03:26:12","modified_gmt":"2026-10-01T03:26:12","slug":"cristiano-ronaldo-walks-out-of-portugal-camp-vowing-to-eventually-reveal-all-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/641217\/","title":{"rendered":"Cristiano Ronaldo walks out of Portugal camp vowing to eventually reveal all \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cristiano-ronaldo\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cristiano-ronaldo\/\">Cristiano Ronaldo<\/a>\u2019s international career could be over after he left Portugal\u2019s training camp and vowed to \u201ctell the truth\u201d in due course.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward faced criticism after an underwhelming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/world-cup\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/world-cup\/\">World Cup<\/a>, but decided to continue playing for his country and was named in the squad for their four <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/nations-league\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/nations-league\/\">Nations League<\/a> fixtures in the current international window.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">New Portugal manager Jorge Jesus worked with Ronaldo at Al Nassr and started the 41-year-old during a 1-0 win over Wales last Thursday, but he left the five-time Ballon d\u2019Or winner on the bench throughout a victory over Norway on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Ronaldo was absent from training in Copenhagen on Wednesday, but Jesus downplayed any suggestion of an issue during a press conference hours later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">However, Ronaldo later took to Instagram, announcing he had left the training camp after discussions with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proenca.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cAfter the press conference of the national team, and following a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have made the decision to leave the national team training camp,\u201d Ronaldo wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cIn due course, I will tell all the Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that led me to leave the national team, to which I always dedicated myself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cNow is the time to wish Portugal and all my team-mates good luck, without exception.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Earlier, Jesus addressed reports Proenca had arrived at the camp, but insisted there was no issue with Ronaldo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cWe had to talk, the three of us, but I had already talked with Cris and the president didn\u2019t have to solve anything because there was nothing to solve,\u201d Jesus told a press conference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Pushed on whether Ronaldo would play against Denmark on Thursday, Jesus said: \u201cI don\u2019t know what\u2019s going to happen in the game. If we need to play, he\u2019ll play. If not, he won\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cIt seems like there was an issue between us, but there was no issue.
