{"id":643434,"date":"2026-10-03T08:18:14","date_gmt":"2026-10-03T08:18:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/643434\/"},"modified":"2026-10-03T08:18:14","modified_gmt":"2026-10-03T08:18:14","slug":"tributes-paid-after-two-people-die-in-workplace-incident-in-co-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/643434\/","title":{"rendered":"Tributes paid after two people die in workplace incident in Co Down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TWO PEOPLE HAVE died following a workplace incident in Co Down.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency services are at the scene on the Ballygowan Road in Crossnacreevy.<\/p>\n<p>The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said it received a 999 call at 10.45am on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMultiple emergency resources were sent including three emergency ambulances, and two Hazardous Area Response Teams (Hart),\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo-one was taken from the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland said its inspectors are on site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHSENI is aware of an incident at a workplace in the Crossnacreevy area and inspectors are on site making inquiries into the circumstances,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are currently liaising with the emergency services and other relevant agencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\" xml:lang=\"en\">Sadly, it has been confirmed that two people have lost their lives following an incident at Crossnacreevy.<\/p>\n<p>My thoughts are with their families and loved ones at this devastating time and with the emergency services responding to the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Ballygowan Road will remain closed.\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Gavin Robinson (@GRobinsonDUP) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GRobinsonDUP\/status\/2106021566731448393?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">October 2, 2026<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>In a social media post, DUP leader Gavin Robinson said: \u201cSadly, it has been confirmed that two people have lost their lives following an incident at Crossnacreevy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy thoughts are with their families and loved ones at this devastating time and with the emergency services responding to the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBallygowan Road will remain closed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease avoid the area and use an alternative route.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ulster Unionist Kathryn Owen described it as a \u201ctragic incident\u201d in a \u201cclose knit community\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know this will have caused enormous shock and sadness, both locally and across the wider area,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also want to pay tribute to our emergency services and specialist rescue teams, who have responded to an incredibly difficult situation.
