An urgent warning has been issued to Irish shoppers after health chiefs recalled a popular chocolate bar over the presence of salmonella<\/p>\n

A popular chocolate<\/a> bar sold in shops across Ireland has been urgently recalled<\/a> amid concerns it could pose a serious health risk to customers.<\/p>\n

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland<\/a> (FSAI) has warned customers \u201cnot to eat\u201d the implicated batches as it issued the recall notice this week for Alyan Dubai Style Crunchy Knafeh and Pistachio Milk Chocolate.<\/p>\n

The food safety watchdog said the popular chocolate bar was being pulled from shelves due to the presence of salmonella <\/a>– a bacteria that can cause severe stomach illness.<\/p>\n

Customers have been warned not to eat the affected products, while all batches should now be removed from sale with recall notices displayed in stores<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The affected product comes in a pack size of 100g, with all best-before dates impacted by the recall.<\/p>\n

The FSAI has requested retailers to remove the implicated batches from sale and also display recall notices visibly at point-of-sale.<\/p>\n

Wholesalers\/distributors are also requested to contact their affected customers and recall the implicated batches and provide a point-of-sale recall notice to their retailer customers.<\/p>\n

People infected with Salmonella tend to develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection but this range can sometimes reach between six and 72 hours.<\/p>\n

The most common symptom noted is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission<\/p>\n

Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts between four to seven days.<\/p>\n

Anyone experiencing these symptoms is advised to stay away from work, school or nursery until they have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others.<\/p>\n

While usually treatable at home, sometimes the illness can be severe enough to require hospital admission.<\/p>\n

Older adults (>65 years), infants and young children (<5 years) and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have severe illness from the infection.<\/p>\n
