What could have been a “fatal” incident was narrowly averted on Sunday night after a person was thrown into a bin – which was then pushed onto train tracks in north Dublin<\/a>.<\/p>\n The “appalling attack” occurred at Harmonstown DART stop just after 8pm on Sunday evening. A group forced the victim into the large bin, before pushing it onto the tracks with the victim inside, reports Dublin Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n While the victim was injured after falling onto the tracks, they were able to get out of the way before a DART saw the bin and brought the tram to a halt in time.<\/p>\n Speaking to Dublin Live about the incident, Corporate Communications Manager at Iarnr\u00f3d \u00c9ireann<\/a> Barry Kenny said: “This was an appalling attack which had the potential to be much worse.<\/p>\n The driver of the Northbound DART saw the bin in time to bring it to a halt <\/p>\n “While the victim was able to immediately get off the track and back onto the platform, the driver of a Northbound DART saw the bin which was still on the tracks as the train approached and brought the DART to a halt in time.<\/p>\n “However, had the individual been incapacitated by the fall, an express service such as an Enterprise or Commuter service would have taken a much longer time to stop, with the obvious potential for serious or fatal injury.<\/p>\n “Ambulance services, Garda\u00ed and our own security and infrastructure staff attended, and services were delayed for 18 minutes.
