{"id":646122,"date":"2026-10-06T04:42:08","date_gmt":"2026-10-06T04:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/646122\/"},"modified":"2026-10-06T04:42:08","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T04:42:08","slug":"galway-city-council-ordered-to-pause-tree-felling-by-high-court-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/646122\/","title":{"rendered":"Galway City Council ordered to pause tree felling by High Court \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/galway-city-council\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/galway-city-council\">Galway City Council<\/a> has been ordered by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/high-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/high-court\/\">High Court<\/a> to pause the felling of trees at a forest on the outskirts of the city following an injunction application by local residents. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Friends of Merlin Woods allege the city council is engaged in the unlawful removal of trees from lands at the forest. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Tom Flynn was granted a temporary injunction on Monday on behalf of the advocacy group, ordering the council to stop felling works at the forest. Judge Richard Humphreys said the case could return next week. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The injunction application follows the commencement of the felling works at the forest by a contractor working on behalf of Galway City Council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The council ordered the felling in response to damage caused by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/storm-eowyn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/storm-eowyn\/\">Storm \u00c9owyn<\/a> in January 2025.
