A middle-aged man is in a serious condition after a suspected stabbing in Cork.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred at Quaker Road just off Cork’s south inner shortly after 10pm on Monday evening.<\/p>\n
Minutes after the incident, the man – who is aged in his 40s – collapsed and locals raised the alarm.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed and paramedics were at the scene within minutes.<\/p>\n
The injured man was rushed to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment for serious injuries.<\/p>\n
It is understood he remains in a serious condition.<\/p>\n

Angelsea Street Garda\u00ed have appealed for information on what they described as a serious assault.<\/p>\n
The alleged assault resulted in an area around Quaker Road remains closed off to facilitate a full technical examination.<\/p>\n
Diversions are in place and Garda\u00ed urged motorists to avoid the area.<\/p>\n
“Garda\u00ed are appealing to anyone with information in relation to this incident or who may have video footage to contact Anglesea Street Garda Station on (021) 4522 000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station,” a Garda spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
Door-to-door inquiries are ongoing in the area to determine if locals had seen or heard anything suspicious in the area between 9pm and 10.30pm on Monday evening.<\/p>\n
It was the second serious assault in Cork city centre in the space of 12 hours.<\/p>\n
Shortly after lunchtime on Monday Garda\u00ed and the armed support unit had to deploy to an area between Patrick Street and Opera Lane after a reported incident between two males.<\/p>\n
A man in his 20s had to be taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening stab injuries.<\/p>\n
A second man was later referred to medical assessment after presenting himself at a Garda station.<\/p>\n
