Microsoft<\/a> announced new software tools and devices that are designed to make personal computers ready for artificial intelligence agents, the company said in a Wednesday (Oct. 7) blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The growing use of AI agents has raised the bar for compute, security and control, Pavan Davuluri<\/a>, executive vice president, Windows + Devices at Microsoft, said in the post.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why we\u2019re building Windows as the home for hybrid intelligence: a platform where agents can run locally when it makes sense, reach the cloud when they need to, and operate with the security and manageability organizations expect,\u201d Davuluri said.<\/p>\n

One of the company\u2019s new offerings, Microsoft Execution Containers (MXC), helps users control what agents can access, know which agent acted and govern them at scale. MXC is now generally available for Windows and integration with Microsoft Agent 365, according to the post.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, Microsoft Execution Containers (MXC) becomes generally available on Windows 11, enabling organizations to define which files and networks agents can access, with those policies enforced at runtime,\u201d Davuluri said. \u201cFor individuals using AI on their personal PC2, these safeguards are part of the agent experience itself, giving users a more secure way to work with these tools.\u201d<\/p>\n

Microsoft has also brought together intelligent routing, powerful local models and performant runtime to bring frontier capability to local Windows PCs and to let it run in the right place, whether local or cloud, the post said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHybrid intelligence brings local and cloud AI together, helping customers stretch their budgets while preserving access to the intelligence they need,\u201d Davuluri said.<\/p>\n

In addition, with the user\u2019s permission, Copilot will be able to use local context from their PC, take action on their behalf and tap into local models, per the post.<\/p>\n

To help unlock these capabilities, Microsoft also unveiled a new generation of PCs. Among them is Surface Laptop Ultra, which is powered by Nvidia RTX Spark, a chip designed to deliver significant local AI performance gains, according to the post.<\/p>\n

Reuters reported Wednesday that the new Nvidia-powered laptop is part of Microsoft\u2019s effort to make Windows a platform for AI agents<\/a>.
