{"id":648118,"date":"2026-10-08T02:26:12","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T02:26:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/648118\/"},"modified":"2026-10-08T02:26:12","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T02:26:12","slug":"plans-lodged-for-major-expansion-of-popular-limerick-hotel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/648118\/","title":{"rendered":"Plans lodged for major expansion of popular Limerick hotel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A planning application has been lodged in a bid to transform a number of vacant retail premises and expand Limerick&#8217;s Savoy Hotel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The proposed plans would see a number of vacant adjoining spaces on Bedford Row converted and a new connection established to the hotel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The submission was made by Kirkland Investments Ltd and would see the hotel create 28 new bedrooms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Vacant retail premises on Bedford Row and Henry St are part of the plans, including the amalgamation of a former clothing store on Henry St and Techstar which closed earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">As part of the plans, a new cafe\/restaurant space would open to the public as well as to hotel guests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The former Dealz store on the corner of Bedford Row would also be transformed into a meeting space, with a bar area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A number of other stores which recently closed would also be part of the amalgamation, including Central Shoes, Noel&#8217;s Menswear Limerick and Schuh to provide the new hotel rooms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A winter garden on the ground floor is also part of the plan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The public can make submissions until October 28, and a decision is due to be made by Limerick City and County Council on November 18.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Separately, planning permission has been sought for a new  <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/news\/munster\/arid-41917462.html\">\u20ac4m boutique hotel<\/a> on Patrick St, which would comprise 35 bedrooms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The planning permission has been sought by developer Tony Enright, who recently spearheaded the development of the former Dunnes Stores on O\u2019Connell St into a restaurant which was recently given permission by the local council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The new boutique hotel has been described as \u201cboutique by design, Limerick by nature\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The site would be a \u201cwarm\u201d and \u201ccharacterful\u201d city hotel which would be \u201cunmistakably connected to Limerick\u201d, according to the plans.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Savoy and the nearby George Hotel were taken over earlier this year by Moran Hospitality, a company founded by the late Tom Moran.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A planning application has been lodged in a bid to transform a number of vacant retail premises and&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":648119,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[185200,72,61,60],"class_list":["post-648118","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-business","tag-limerick-news","tag-business","tag-ie","tag-ireland"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/648118","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=648118"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/648118\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/648119"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=648118"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=648118"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=648118"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
