Like its source, the play opens with a family in mourning for its patriarch. There is a controlling mother and five bickering daughters. Coburn transposes the action from 1930s Spain to 1980s Ireland, and a world of rural Irish respectability.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom0 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Matriarch Bernadette has a half-sister Frances who is black, the product of her father\u2019s affair.
