{"id":650006,"date":"2026-10-09T22:22:10","date_gmt":"2026-10-09T22:22:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/650006\/"},"modified":"2026-10-09T22:22:10","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T22:22:10","slug":"limerick-windfarm-approved-despite-277-page-objection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/650006\/","title":{"rendered":"Limerick windfarm approved despite 277-page objection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Plans have been approved for a new windfarm in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/maintopics\/limerick-news_topic-5331485.html\">Limerick<\/a>, despite strong concerns from locals.<\/p>\n<p>An Coimisi\u00fan Plean\u00e1la has approved plans for a proposed windfarm development in the Bruree, Charleville, and Effin-Garrienderk area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Over 60 submissions by locals and organisations were lodged against the project proposed by Garrane Green Energy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A 277-page objection was lodged against the plans from the Bruree Charleville Effin Wind Farm Action Group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Several local councillors also objected to the plans, including Brigid Teefy, PJ Carey, John O\u2019Donoghue. Independent TD Richard O\u2019Donoghue and Sinn F\u00e9in senator Joanne Collins also expressed concerns about the plans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Garrane Green Energy sought permission to construct nine wind turbines, a grid connection, as well as other works across the towns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">An Coimisi\u00fan Plean\u00e1la approved the plans for seven of the nine proposed wind turbines. Two of them were ruled out in a bid to protect the bird and bat habitat in the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Bruree Charleville Effin Wind Farm Action Group had previously said that the Croke Park pitch is 145m long, at least 25m shorter than the turbines, which are tipped at a height of\u00a0170m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The group expressed concerns that the project would have unacceptable impacts on local wildlife and biodiversity. They also pointed out the turbines would be developed on a flood-prone site, and would cause excessive disruption to residents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThe \u2018circular traffic system\u2019 as described by GGE means that in excess of 7,000 heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) will travel along the L1537 (Garrienderk, Ballinagoul, Garrouse roads) through the village of Bruree over the estimated 12-18 month construction period,\u201d the group had pointed out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;Please be mindful, this is just the HGVs, and it will have serious impacts on an already congested Charleville town.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Meanwhile, planners have ruled the turbines can reach up to 170m, with the rotor diameters stretching out to 150m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">From the date the windfarm is commissioned, permission will remain in place for 35 years. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Plans have been approved for a new windfarm in Limerick, despite strong concerns from locals.
