Lena Dunham\u2019s<\/a> hit series Girls<\/a> will return for a limited run.<\/p>\n

The HBO<\/a> sitcom, which made stars out of the cast, including Dunham, Adam Driver<\/a> and Allison Williams, premiered in 2012 and follows four millennial friends as they navigate their lives in New York City.<\/p>\n

The series will return for a five-episode special starring Dunham as Hannah Horvath, Williams as Marnie Michaels, Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna, Jemima Kirke as Jessa and Andrew Rannells as Elijah.<\/p>\n

Production is set to begin in 2027, nearly a decade after it wrapped.<\/p>\n

News of the show\u2019s revival was announced on Tuesday with a video released by HBO featuring the original four on a video call.<\/p>\n

Dunham said: \u201cOkay. So we used to spend like every summer together, you know, doing this thing that we do, making this show. And is it something that you would want to do again? Are you are you free next summer?<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you in?\u201d<\/p>\n

As they all agreed, Rannells popped up in the video call and said: \u201cI\u2019m in, but only because you trash cans need constant supervision.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dunham ends the call with a final question: \u201cSeriously, can we still call it Girls? Cause we\u2019re like old as f\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

The series ran for six seasons and also starred Driver as Adam Sackler, Hannah\u2019s on-again-off-again boyfriend, however, it was not confirmed if he will return for the revival.<\/p>\n

The show was controversial at the time for its frank depiction of sex with Dunham frequently appearing nude or partially clothed in the show.<\/p>\n

Dunham was also behind the Netflix series Too Much<\/a> about an American woman in her 30s who relocates to London and falls in love with a British musician \u2013 mirroring her life and romance to her husband, who she married in 2021.<\/p>\n
