{"id":654873,"date":"2026-10-14T21:52:12","date_gmt":"2026-10-14T21:52:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/654873\/"},"modified":"2026-10-14T21:52:12","modified_gmt":"2026-10-14T21:52:12","slug":"gardai-assess-threatening-email-sent-to-schools-on-day-of-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/654873\/","title":{"rendered":"Garda\u00ed assess &#8216;threatening&#8217; email sent to schools on day of strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/maintopics\/an-garda-s%C3%ADoch%C3%A1na_topic-5076620.html\">Garda\u00ed<\/a> are assessing the contents and credibility of a \u201cthreatening\u201d communication sent to schools on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>A number of schools across the country <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/news\/munster\/arid-41924233.html\">undertaking industrial action<\/a> received the email, the Department of Education has confirmed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The message arrived as thousands of teachers, SNAs and school staff were on strike.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Schools who received the message have been instructed to report the threat to An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A spokesman for the Department said it was made aware that &#8220;a number of schools&#8221; received the threatening email on October 14.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It has &#8220;consulted with An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na regarding this matter&#8221;, he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na has advised that any school that has received this email should ring 999 and report the threat to An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na and cooperate fully with any Garda instructions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;The department communicated this advice to schools and boards of management, management bodies, and unions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It expects schools &#8220;can continue to operate as normal unless otherwise advised by An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The department will continue to monitor the situation and communicate any further advice as required,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A spokesman for the Irish National Teachers&#8217; Organisation (INTO) said the union &#8220;is not in a position to comment.&#8221; He added:<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;In any such cases, we advise members to report any concerns to the Garda\u00ed and follow their advice.
