{"id":655235,"date":"2026-10-15T06:16:12","date_gmt":"2026-10-15T06:16:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/655235\/"},"modified":"2026-10-15T06:16:12","modified_gmt":"2026-10-15T06:16:12","slug":"more-than-150-schools-receive-bomb-threat-email-on-same-day-as-public-sector-strike-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/655235\/","title":{"rendered":"More than 150 schools receive bomb threat email on same day as public sector strike \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A number of schools received threatening emails warning them of potential attacks on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It is understood over 150 schools in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\">Dublin<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kildare\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/kildare\">Kildare<\/a> regions received the bomb scare email.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The schools are understood to be operating as normal while taking the advice of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\">garda\u00ed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">This comes on the same day as widespread industrial action over public sector pay, where the majority of schools across the country were closed and pickets placed outside.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/department-of-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/department-of-education\/\">Department of Education<\/a> said it consulted with garda\u00ed on the issue, who advised any school in receipt of the email to contact garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe department communicated this advice to schools and boards of management, management bodies, and unions,\u201d it said in a statement to The Irish Times. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cOn this basis, the department anticipates that Boards of Management will have regard to the advice from An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na, and schools can continue to operate as normal unless otherwise advised by An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Garda\u00ed said they are \u201caware of a communication\u201d that was sent to a number of schools on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A spokesperson said garda\u00ed are assessing the \u201ccontents and credibility\u201d of the emails.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Garda\u00ed are engaging with the schools involved, they said, adding that no further information is currently available. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Sources had suggested that the bomb squad had made callouts to schools, but it\u2019s understood this related to other incidents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A Defence Forces spokesperson said: \u201cThe Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team were deployed twice today to locations within Dublin.
