{"id":660930,"date":"2026-10-21T01:34:10","date_gmt":"2026-10-21T01:34:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/660930\/"},"modified":"2026-10-21T01:34:10","modified_gmt":"2026-10-21T01:34:10","slug":"construction-on-the-new-maternity-hospital-will-begin-in-2027","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/660930\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction on the new maternity hospital will begin in 2027"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CONSTRUCTION ON THE new National Maternity Hospital (NMH) will begin next year, but won\u2019t be completed until 2033.<\/p>\n<p>The project received government approval today, paving the way for it to get underway in early 2027.<\/p>\n<p>John Sisk &amp; Son is set to be the main contractor on the project that was first announced back in 2013.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, the project\u2019s completion date was 2029; it was also reported in January of last year that the Department of Health had spent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejournal.ie\/department-of-health-47-million-consultants-national-maternity-hospital-6607784-Jan2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u20ac47 million on consultants for the long-awaited project.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The hospital is set to be constructed\u00a0at the St Vincent\u2019s University Hospital Campus at Elm Park, Dublin.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement today, Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill said the NMH \u201cwill provide state-of-the-art maternity, neonatal and gynaecological services in a purpose-built facility\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>HSE chief executive Anne O\u2019Connor said it is a \u201clandmark decision for the future of women\u2019s health in Ireland\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Jennifer Walsh, Master of the NMH, also welcomed the announcement.
