{"id":661088,"date":"2026-10-21T05:10:10","date_gmt":"2026-10-21T05:10:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/661088\/"},"modified":"2026-10-21T05:10:10","modified_gmt":"2026-10-21T05:10:10","slug":"patrick-odonovan-remains-stable-and-is-expected-to-stay-in-hospital-for-another-period","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/661088\/","title":{"rendered":"Patrick O&#8217;Donovan remains stable and is expected to stay in hospital for &#8216;another period&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MEDIA MINISTER PATRICK O\u2019Donovan remains stable in hospital as he\u2019s receiving ongoing treatment.<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Donovan was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick last Tuesday afternoon after he became unwell at an informal meeting of EU communications ministers at the University of Limerick.<\/p>\n<p>A government spokesperson said this evening that his condition remains stable in hospital and that it is likely he will remain in hospital for \u201canother period\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, his family said in a statement that the minister will return to work \u201cas soon as new treatment has bedded down\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They said: \u201cPatrick\u2019s interdisciplinary team at University Hospital Limerick are working with him to ensure his return to his department as soon as new treatment has bedded down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The minister returned to work in September after a period of illness over the summer.<\/p>\n<p>In July, O\u2019Donovan, who has been open about his experience of living with epilepsy, became unwell and was hospitalised in Belgium before being flown back to Ireland on the government\u2019s private jet a few days later.<\/p>\n<p>Additional reporting by Jane Matthews.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"MEDIA MINISTER PATRICK O\u2019Donovan remains stable in hospital as he\u2019s receiving ongoing treatment.
