Grandchildren of a pensioner allegedly murdered in her home had previously alerted garda\u00ed and social services about concerns they had for her safety, a court heard. <\/p>\n
Josephine \u201cJosie\u201d Ray (89), of St Joseph\u2019s Park, Nenagh, Co Tipperary, was found dead in her bed on August 4th, 2024, after she was allegedly suffocated and strangled.<\/p>\n
Hasan Ali Gori (52), originally from Chad, Africa<\/a>, and with an address at St Joseph\u2019s Park, Nenagh, has pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court<\/a>, Limerick, to murdering Josephine Ray.<\/p>\n At the time, Ali Gori was in a relationship with Josie Ray\u2019s daughter, Mary Ray, who it was heard has an intellectual disability, and they were both living in Josie Ray\u2019s house.<\/p>\n On Wednesday, the court heard evidence of a phone call made by Josie Ray\u2019s granddaughter, Rosie O\u2019Brien, to garda\u00ed on the night before her death.<\/p>\n O\u2019Brien told garda\u00ed that Mary Ray and the accused were \u201cfighting\u201d and \u201cscreaming at each other\u201d at Josie Ray\u2019s house, and she was concerned for her elderly grandmother.<\/p>\n Josie Ray\u2019s grandson Daniel O\u2019Brien gave evidence in court that he was a regular visitor in his grandmother\u2019s home, but that he stepped back from visiting her after the accused moved into the property.<\/p>\n O\u2019Brien described his grandmother\u2019s relationship with the accused as \u201cbad\u201d. He said he witnessed a lot of arguments involving Josie, her daughter Mary, and the accused.<\/p>\n Mary Ray, the accused, and Mary Ray\u2019s son were in the house when she was discovered dead, the jury of nine men and three women heard.<\/p>\n
