A man in his 20s was killed in a crash involving a car and a pedestrian in North Cork this afternoon.<\/p>\n
Emergency services and Garda\u00ed rushed to the scene of the incident along the N20 near Burnfort, Mallow, shortly before 6 pm today. The pedestrian was fatally injured, and the driver of the car, a man in his 20s who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
The driver’s injuries have been described as non-life-threatening, and the body of the deceased has been removed to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed remain at the scene this evening, and the road is to remain closed overnight. A technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators will take place tomorrow morning. Local diversions are in place, and motorists should use an alternative route where possible.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed are appealing to witnesses and to anyone with dash cam footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward.<\/p>\n
A Garda spokesperson said: “Garda\u00ed are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on the N20 at Burnfort, Mallow, Co. Cork this evening, Wednesday 21st October 2026. The collision, which involved a car and a pedestrian, occurred at approximately 5:45pm.<\/p>\n
“Any road users who were travelling in the area of the N20 at Burnfort between 5:15 pm and 5:45 pm this evening, Wednesday 21st October 2026, and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available to Garda\u00ed.”<\/p>\n
