Joey Carbery will make his first start for Leinster in eight years, while captain Dan Sheehan has been named at number eight for their first interpro of the season at home to Munster in the Aviva Stadium on Saturday evening as the Irish provinces revealed their United Rugby Championship selections.

Ireland hooker Sheehan, who scored two tries in Leinster’s comfortable win in Clermont last Saturday, has intriguingly been named at number eight in the absence of Jack Conan, who picked up an injury in the act of scoring a second half try last weekend.

Ronan Kelleher fills in for Sheehan in his regular berth at hooker.

Carbery came off the bench as a late replacement for Sam Prendergast and has been handed his first start since his return to the province.

The Irish out-half, who left Leinster in high profile circumstances in 2018, is named to start against the province where he spent six injury-riddled seasons until 2024.

He is joined at half-back by Jamison Gibson-Park, who makes his first start of the season in place of Fintan Gunne, who impressed in the South African trip and made his Champions Cup debut in Clermont.

Leo Cullen has made one other change to the starting team, with Jamie Osborne named at outside centre in place of Garry Ringrose.

Charlie Tector and Caspar Gabriel are named among the replacements.

Munster have made seven changes to the side that defeated Racing 92 in the opening round of the Champions Cup, with Clayton McMillan’s side hit by several new injury blows this week.

Tom Ahern (above), John Hodnett, Dan Kelly, Jeremy Loughman and Jack Aungier have all been ruled out after picking up knocks, while Michael Milne, Edwin Edogbo, Diarmuid Barron and new signing Will Harrison continue to be sidelined.

Josh Wycherley and Kieran Brookes come in to join Marnus van der Merwe at hooker, with Loughman and Aungier sidelined, while Fineen Wycherley replaces Ahern at lock, were he partners captain Tadhg Beirne.

It’s a fully changed back row, with Jack O’Donoghue, Alex Kendellen and Gavin Coombes in from the start, with Sean Edogbo and Brian Gleeson dropping to the bench.

The backline does have more consistency, with Craig Casey and Charlie O’Shea continuing as the half-back partnership, with Ben O’Donovan and JJ Hanrahan on the bench.

Sean O’Brien moves from wing to the centre to replace the injured Kelly, with Alex Nankivell in the 13 shirt.

Shane Daly and Shay McCarthy are named on the wings with Ben O’Donovan at full-back.
