\n\tKorean filmmaker Lee Hwan-kyung<\/a>, director of \u201cMiracle in Cell No. 7,\u201d has assembled an Indonesian ensemble led by Vino G. Bastian<\/a>, Pevita Pearce, Faradina Mufti and Indra Jegel for \u201cGasigogi<\/a>,\u201d a father-son drama now in production with Falcon Pictures.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film follows Jiwa, a father who sacrifices everything in a fight to save Juna, his son, who has blood cancer. Bastian plays the lead, with Pearce as co-lead and Mufti as Chitra. Falcon Pictures unveiled the cast together with Hwantasy Entertainment.<\/p>\n

\n\tBastian starred in the Indonesian remake of \u201cMiracle in Cell No. 7,\u201d while Pearce is known for \u201c5 cm\u201d and Mufti for \u201cImpetigore.\u201d The supporting cast includes Altaaf Akavi (\u201cTunggu Aku Sukses Nanti\u201d), Indro Warkop (\u201cMiracle in Cell No. 7\u201d), Dea Panendra (\u201cMarlina the Murderer in Four Acts\u201d), Sadana Agung (\u201cAgak Laen\u201d), Irma Novita Rihi (\u201cWomen From Rote Island\u201d), Luisa Adreena (\u201cNa Willa\u201d), Pritt Timothy (\u201cAyah, Aku Mau Cerita\u201d), Verdi Solaiman (\u201cThe Raid\u201d) and Kiki Narendra (\u201cGhost in the Cell\u201d).<\/p>\n

\n\tThe working title takes its inspiration from the stickleback fish. The male of the species remains alone with the eggs and fights off predators until his body gives out, at which point his flesh becomes the hatchlings\u2019 first food. Lee uses the image as a metaphor for fatherhood and the sacrifices parents make for their children.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe project marks Lee\u2019s return to directing following the success of the Indonesian version of his earlier phenomenon, and he has called it the most emotionally taxing film he has taken on. He made \u201cMiracle in Cell No. 7\u201d as a gift for his daughter. \u201cGasigogi\u201d is dedicated to his son.<\/p>\n

\n\tBy shooting in Indonesia, Lee wants to draw on the country\u2019s strong attachment to family, faith and community. He said the film is an original work rather than a transplant of Korean feeling, one that \u201cbreathes with Indonesian lungs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cJust as a father gives everything to his child, I want to pour everything I have into creating a precious gift for this family,\u201d Lee said. \u201cThe name of that gift is \u2018Gasigogi.\u2019 The goal is simple: I want to create a film so honest and resonant that when the credits roll, the first thing the audience wants to do is call their father.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTo be trusted with a story of this magnitude is both an incredible honor and a tremendous emotional challenge,\u201d Bastian added. \u201cDirector Lee has crafted a raw, devastating, and beautiful narrative about what a father will endure for his child.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMufti said she was grateful to Falcon and Lee for entrusting her with Chitra. \u201cAs a mother myself, this story feels very close to my heart,\u201d she said. \u201cIt reminds me that love isn\u2019t always expressed through words, but often through the things we do and the sacrifices we make for our children.\u201d<\/p>\n
