{"id":664199,"date":"2026-10-24T17:00:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-24T17:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/664199\/"},"modified":"2026-10-24T17:00:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-24T17:00:09","slug":"man-found-on-cork-golf-course-died-from-hypothermia-postmortem-finds-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/664199\/","title":{"rendered":"Man found on Cork golf course died from hypothermia, postmortem finds \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A postmortem has ruled out foul play in the death of a man who was found partially clothed on a golf course in Co <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cork\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cork\/\">Cork<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster confirmed to garda\u00ed on Saturday that 28-year-old Jack O\u2019Donovan, who was from Macroom, had died as a result of hypothermia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">His body was found on Macroom golf course at 9.30am on Friday by a staff member of Macroom Golf Club.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The staff member contacted the emergency services and the man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Officers from Macroom Garda station cordoned off the scene and erected a tent to protect the body from the elements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Some of Jack O\u2019Donovan\u2019s clothing, a shirt and top, were found a few hundred metres away, which led some garda\u00ed to suspect he may taken them off when suffering from hypothermia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">People suffering from hypothermia can believe their body is overheating, a Garda source said, so they counter-intuitively take off clothing in what is known as paradoxical undressing.
