Tens of thousands of properties were without power on Sunday morning after strong winds associated with Storm Boelo swept across Ireland overnight.<\/p>\n
A number of weather warnings remained in place on Sunday morning, with strong southwest winds, severe gusts and coastal gales persisting. <\/p>\n
Donegal was the last county to fall under a Met \u00c9ireann<\/a> Status Orange weather warning. This expired at 9am and was replaced by a Status Yellow wind warning running until 3pm. <\/p>\n Orange-level warnings for Sligo<\/a>, Leitrim<\/a>, Mayo<\/a> and Galway<\/a> expired earlier on Sunday, as did a Yellow wind warning covering Connacht, Cavan<\/a>, Louth<\/a> and Monaghan<\/a>. <\/p>\n A UK Met Office Amber Alert for Antrim<\/a> and Derry<\/a> expired at 10am, but Antrim, Armagh<\/a>, Down<\/a>, Fermanagh<\/a>, Tyrone<\/a> and Derry remain under a Yellow warning until midday.<\/p>\n A rain warning for counties Kerry and Cork comes into effect at 1am on Monday and runs until 9am. <\/p>\n ESB Networks<\/a> said around 41,000 homes, farms and businesses, mostly in the northwest region, were without electricity on Sunday morning as a result of Storm Boelo.<\/p>\n Its PowerCheck service was showing a large number of outages in the west and northwest, as well as in parts of the midlands, Bantry in Co Cork and Dingle in Co Kerry. <\/p>\n \u201cAs Met \u00c9ireann weather warnings remain in place, there may be further power outages this morning,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n \u201cESB Networks crews have been deployed since first light in all impacted areas to continue to carry out the necessary restoration work where safe to do so. We expect the vast majority of impacted customers to have their supply restored by this evening.\u201d<\/p>\n In Northern Ireland, some 7,000 customers were without power as of 10.30am on Sunday, according to NIE Networks. <\/p>\n NIE Networks said the storm had resulted in \u201ca level of damage to the electricity network\u201d across Northern Ireland and incident centres to co-ordinate the response had been operational across the North since Saturday afternoon. <\/p>\n \u201cOur engineers and field teams were mobilised in advance of the storm and are continuing to respond across the network, working safely and efficiently to repair damage and restore supplies to affected customers as quickly as possible,\u201d NIE Networks said. <\/p>\n The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has warned of road closures throughout Northern Ireland due to fallen trees caused by Storm Boelo. <\/p>\n The PSNI<\/a> said a number of roads blocked by fallen trees and debris related to the weather had been cleared. <\/p>\n However, the Springwell Road in Groomsport remained closed and the Cootehall Road in Crawfordsburn had been reduced to one lane. The Foyle Bridge in Derry was closed due to high winds. <\/p>\n \u201cPlease continue to exercise caution while driving,\u201d the force said. \u201cIf travel is essential, leave extra time for your journey and increase your stopping distance from the car in front.\u201d <\/p>\n Mayo County Council said the R331 Claremorris to Ballinrobe road was partially blocked by fallen trees, with crews attending the scene to remove the obstructions.<\/p>\n The stormy weather caused some transport disruption, with a number of flights cancelled at Dublin Airport<\/a> on Saturday and several ferry crossings not departing between Dublin and Holyhead. <\/p>\n
