{"id":666043,"date":"2026-10-26T18:10:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-26T18:10:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/666043\/"},"modified":"2026-10-26T18:10:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-26T18:10:09","slug":"woman-charged-with-smuggling-men-into-ireland-via-dublin-airport-twice-in-a-fortnight-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/666043\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman charged with smuggling men into Ireland via Dublin Airport twice in a fortnight \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A woman has been charged with smuggling men into Ireland via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-airport\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-airport\/\">Dublin Airport<\/a> twice within two weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Daniela Rusescu (34), a Romanian national living in the UK, appeared before Dublin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/district-court\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/district-court\/\">District Court<\/a> after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/garda-national-immigration-bureau\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/garda-national-immigration-bureau\/\">Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB)<\/a> officers arrested her at Terminal 1 in the airport on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The 34-year-old, of Old Barn Court, Northampton, was held over the weekend and brought before Judge \u00c1ine Clancy on Monday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The judge noted that Det Cathal Brady of the GNIB was opposing bail, citing flight risk concerns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Rusescu faces two counts under Section 6(1) of the Criminal Justice (Smuggling of Persons) Act 2021 for assisting  a man to enter the State on October 10th and again on October 24th of this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The accused was stopped just after 8.30pm following the arrival of a flight from Barcelona, Spain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">She made no reply to the most recent allegation and, for the earlier offence, answered, \u201cI was not here on October 10th. I was in the UK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Rusescu, who has yet to enter a plea, listened to the proceedings with assistance from an interpreter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Counsel said the accused was not proceeding with a bail application at this stage and she was remanded in custody to appear before the court again on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The court heard that garda\u00ed need to obtain directions from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/director-of-public-prosecutions\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/director-of-public-prosecutions\/\">Director of Public Prosecutions<\/a> on the charges, which carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A woman has been charged with smuggling men into Ireland via Dublin Airport twice within two weeks.
