\n\tDNEG<\/a>, the visual effects house on Christopher Nolan\u2019s \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d has come aboard Francesco Lucente\u2019s fantasy adventure \u201cSinbad<\/a>\u201d as co-financier and producer, with Hong Kong-based Cappu Films<\/a> handling sales in a wide spread of territories.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe deal was unveiled ahead of the Tokyo International Film Festival<\/a>\u2018s TIFFCOM market. Lucente\u2019s fresh screen version of the classic sailor tale is due to begin pre-production in early 2027 and to deliver in March 2029. <\/p>\n

\n\tCappu first showed the project to buyers at the Busan market, and sales conversations are ongoing as casting and the wider package take shape.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018Sinbad\u2019 is a story that has captured imaginations for generations, and our ambition is to bring it to life on a scale and with a sense of wonder that audiences have never experienced before,\u201d said Lucente, who wrote the script and will direct. \u201cWe\u2019re creating a breathtaking world of adventure, extraordinary creatures, ancient mysteries and unforgettable characters, while keeping the heart of the story deeply human. We want \u2018Sinbad\u2019 to be more than a spectacular cinematic experience \u2013 we want it to be the kind of adventure that stays with audiences long after they leave the theater.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe sales company\u2019s rights cover parts of Asia, Europe, the CIS, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East and Africa, along with some Pacific island markets. China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, German-speaking Europe, Spain, Portugal, Turkey and Eastern Europe are all on the list.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film reunites Cappu with Lucente after \u201cStarbright.\u201d Janice Woo of Cappu Films said that following their work together on that film, the company was excited to team with the director on a project of this scale. \u201cDNEG\u2019s involvement is particularly compelling for a fantasy adventure such as \u2018Sinbad.\u2019 We introduced the project to buyers in Busan and look forward to developing those conversations as the package comes together,\u201d Woo said.<\/p>\n

\n\tDNEG\u2019s teams have won eight Oscars for visual effects, and the company\u2019s credits include \u201cInception,\u201d \u201cInterstellar,\u201d \u201cBlade Runner 2049,\u201d \u201cDune\u201d and \u201cDune: Part Two.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLucente\u2019s fantasy feature \u201cStarbright\u201d counts Ted Levine, John Rhys-Davies and Diego Boneta among its cast. He also directed the drama \u201cBadland.\u201d Cappu is separately handling international sales on \u201cA Grim Life,\u201d a supernatural thriller starring Joseph Mazzello and set at Los Angeles\u2019 Cecil Hotel.<\/p>\n

\n\tCappu partners with independent filmmakers on both arthouse and commercial titles.
