\n\tTaylor Swift<\/a> was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame<\/a> on Monday night (Oct. 26), using her acceptance speech to revisit the Music Row writing rooms, publishers and collaborators who shaped her earliest years as a songwriter.<\/p>\n

\n\tBrad Paisley inducted the 14-time Grammy winner at the organization\u2019s 56th annual gala at Nashville\u2019s Music City Center, prompting an opening joke about a tour prank that apparently still hadn\u2019t been forgotten.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m really surprised to see you here, actually, because we\u2019ve been estranged since 2007,\u201d Swift joked.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe singer-songwriter recalled Paisley filling her tour bus with thousands of live crickets during their time on the road together. \u201cFor months, I couldn\u2019t sleep. Just chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp all night,\u201d she remembered, before deciding his introduction had been good enough to let \u201cbygones be bygones.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFrom there, Swift broke the Hall of Fame honor down into three words: Nashville, songwriters and fame.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI knew from the time I wrote my first song that even if it couldn\u2019t be my career, it would be my passion,\u201d she told the room. \u201cIt would be what I centered my entire life around.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNashville, meanwhile, was \u201cthe place that I went to in my middle school daydreams\u201d \u2014 somewhere the young songwriter imagined all of the lessons and wisdom she wanted to acquire existed in one place.<\/p>\n

\n\tFame came later, Swift noted.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFame, you know, that\u2019s sort of a byproduct of my love for music,\u201d the pop superstar explained. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of like songwriter plus Nashville equals fame.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWith that success came what she described as \u201cdaily random doses of chaos.\u201d When life starts to feel strange, Swift returns mentally to her earliest memories of arriving in Nashville, signing a publishing deal at 14 and writing songs every day.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was like a sponge,\u201d she joked. \u201cAnd I had really curly hair and it was yellow, so I kind of looked like a sponge too.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThose formative years taught her that songwriting was a craft built through repetition.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think you truly learn a craft when you do it over and over and over,\u201d the songwriter reflected. \u201cAnd that is what the magnificent songwriters that work in this amazing town do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere is no music community like this music community,\u201d she added. \u201cI know, I checked all the communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSwift also credited Nashville\u2019s writing community with teaching her some of the less glamorous realities of collaboration: how to push through creative blocks, which ideas are worth fighting for and when to let something go.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI learned how to accommodate when your co-writer has a hangover, or when they\u2019re going to need to talk about their divorce for a really long time before we write anything,\u201d she joked.<\/p>\n

\n\tThose writers, the newly inducted Hall of Famer explained, \u201cin a lot of ways, raised me and guided me through my formative years.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOne memory she revisited in detail dates back to December 2005.<\/p>\n

\n\tHer mother would pick her up from Hendersonville High School and drive her to Jody Williams Music, an independent publisher housed in a small Craftsman-style home. At the front desk was Katherine \u2014 whose boyfriend at the time, Swift revealed to the room, was Eric Church.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThings have gone great for them,\u201d she joked. \u201cThey\u2019ve got a couple kids, married like 20 years now. His full name is Eric Church, just for clarity.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFrom there, the then-teenage songwriter would run upstairs to a red-painted room to work with Liz Rose.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019d be like, \u2018Liz, this happened in school today,\u2019\u201d Swift recalled. \u201cAnd she\u2019d get her notebook, and we\u2019d just write so fast.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter those sessions, she would head into a garden shed behind the building, where demo producer Nathan Chapman recorded her songs and played every instrument.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHe interpreted my music so intuitively that later on I would fight for him to produce my entire first album,\u201d she recalled. \u201cAnd it was our first album, both of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHer self-titled debut celebrated its 20th anniversary on Oct. 24, just two days before Monday\u2019s induction.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cLove Story\u201d singer also looked back on writing at Nashville\u2019s Sony Fire Hall, where she could hear other songwriters working through the walls.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI just kind of liked to pretend that I was in the real building,\u201d she told the audience.<\/p>\n

\n\tLooking back across the two decades that followed, Swift credited the foundation she built in Nashville with giving her the freedom to move between genres, collaborators and creative approaches.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe only reason that I\u2019ve been able to have that kind of dexterity in my creative process is because of the fundamentals and the foundation that I learned here in Nashville,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I never forget that for a single second.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m so incredibly honored to be inducted into this sacred club, especially at this point in my life,\u201d the newly minted Hall of Famer continued. \u201cIt\u2019s not lost on me how crazy this is.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe closed by describing Nashville as the place that \u201choned and polished\u201d the part of herself she is most proud of.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt just feels like one of those amazing Nashville moments I\u2019m going to revisit on a rainy day,\u201d Swift concluded.<\/p>\n

\n\tTaylor Swift was inducted alongside Lyle Lovett, Shawn Camp, Lee Thomas Miller, Bruce Channel and the late J.I. Allison.
