{"id":667105,"date":"2026-10-27T19:36:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-27T19:36:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/667105\/"},"modified":"2026-10-27T19:36:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-27T19:36:09","slug":"dangerous-levels-of-hospital-overcrowding-with-777-people-on-trolleys-says-inmo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/667105\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Dangerous&#8217; levels of hospital overcrowding with 777 people on trolleys, says INMO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HOSPITALS ARE SEEING \u2018dangerous\u2019 levels of overcrowding with <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.thejournal.ie\/media\/2026\/10\/trolley-count_27-october-2026-bb09eab8-7ace-4ff5-bf34-544737a8e88d.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">777 patients on trolleys as of Tuesday.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) said there are over 199 people on trolleys across hospitals in Galway, Letterkenny, Sligo and Mayo alone.<\/p>\n<p>INMO general secretary Phil N\u00ed Sheaghdha said this overcrowding is \u201cso dangerous, it is hard to see how the employer can stand over conditions in any hospital in the country\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not acceptable that something as ordinary as a bank holiday weekend can result in this level of risk for patients and staff,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p>She said this demonstrates a \u201ctotal failure in planning and a total disregard for safety\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>N\u00ed Sheaghdha said their members are \u201cstretched to the limit\u201d and \u201ccaring for too many patients in understaffed wards\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis dangerous situation is happening in the context of cessation of recruitment and nurse managers being prevented from filling vacant posts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re calling for all vacant posts to be filled \u201cas a matter of urgency, and that recruitment and staff planning move to the top of the HSE\u2019s agenda\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>University Hospital Limerick currently has the most patients on trolleys with 108 people being treated without a bed.<\/p>\n<p>Letterkenny University Hospital has 62 patients without a bed, while\u00a0St Vincent\u2019s University Hospital has 58.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"HOSPITALS ARE SEEING \u2018dangerous\u2019 levels of overcrowding with 777 patients on trolleys as of Tuesday.\u00a0 The Irish Nurses&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":667106,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[34],"tags":[21911,103,397,396,2120,61,48751,60,2733,260821],"class_list":["post-667105","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-healthcare","tag-hospital-overcrowding","tag-health","tag-health-care","tag-healthcare","tag-hse","tag-ie","tag-inmo","tag-ireland","tag-october","tag-trolley-crisis"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/667105","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=667105"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/667105\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/667106"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=667105"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=667105"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=667105"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
