{"id":669997,"date":"2026-10-30T15:56:14","date_gmt":"2026-10-30T15:56:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/669997\/"},"modified":"2026-10-30T15:56:14","modified_gmt":"2026-10-30T15:56:14","slug":"cork-syndicate-wins-e5-6m-lotto-jackpot-the-group-chat-just-erupted-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/669997\/","title":{"rendered":"Cork syndicate wins \u20ac5.6m Lotto jackpot: \u2018The group chat just erupted\u2019 \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cork\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cork\">Co Cork<\/a> syndicate have been confirmed as the winners of a \u20ac5.6 million Lotto jackpot, the first since game changes were introduced last month. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/national-lottery\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/national-lottery\">National Lottery<\/a> quick-pick ticket was purchased during a shopping trip in Cork city earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The syndicate won the \u20ac5,664,896 jackpot prize in the main Lotto draw on October 7th. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Lotto rule change last month saw the number of balls reduced from 47 to 45, with numbers 46 and 47 being removed. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The syndicate purchased the winning ticket at Eason in Mahon Point Shopping Centre in Cork city. The winning numbers were 3, 17, 26, 29, 37 and 42 and the bonus was 38.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Recalling the moment they realised they had won, the head of the syndicate said: \u201cWe got the numbers up and started checking them one by one. As they kept matching, it slowly started to sink in that something unbelievable was happening.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">After confirming the win, the news was quickly shared with the rest of the syndicate members. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cI sent a message into the group chat and it just erupted \u2013 our phones wouldn\u2019t stop buzzing from phone calls to messages. Everyone was in complete disbelief.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In September, another Cork syndicate won \u20ac3.6 million in the Lotto jackpot. In May a Dublin player won a jackpot worth \u20ac8.7 million. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Friday night\u2019s EuroMillions draw promises to make one Irish player a guaranteed millionaire.
