The welfare of The Celebrity Traitors contestants is the BBC’s “highest priority”, the corporation said, after reports that filming had to be paused when James Acaster became upset during the dramatic finale of the latest episode.<\/p>\n
The comedian, 41, was banished from the roundtable during Thursday\u2019s semi-final after he came clean and admitted he was a traitor to his fellow players.<\/p>\n
According to The Sun, Acaster got upset during the tense roundtable, forcing producers to pause filming and step in.<\/p>\n
He was also reportedly given a welfare check before the roundtable began.<\/p>\n
A BBC spokesperson said: “Our highest priority is always the safety and welfare of everyone taking part.<\/p>\n
“Players are closely monitored and supported throughout by production which includes a dedicated and experienced welfare team.”<\/p>\n
A representative for Acaster declined to comment.<\/p>\n
Acaster began the game as a faithful but was recruited as a traitor and struggled with the new role.<\/p>\n
The comedian fell under suspicion at the roundtable after a discussion about former EastEnders star Ross Kemp\u2019s murder in plain sight, in which he struggled to defend himself.<\/p>\n
He told the contestants: “I just want to explain my situation, I was made a traitor without wanting to be. I\u2019ve had a unique experience on this that no-one\u2019s had before, where I wanted to be a faithful and that\u2019s all I\u2019ve wanted to be.<\/p>\n
“I couldn\u2019t just go ‘guys it\u2019s me, vote for me\u2019, but that\u2019s all I can do really\u2019.<\/p>\n
Acaster said he had pointed out the perfume bottles, which killed Kemp, on purpose.<\/p>\n
After receiving the most votes at the roundtable, the comedian said: “When I came into this experience I told Claudia (Winkleman, the show\u2019s presenter) that all I wanted to be was a faithful, and all I wanted to do is go around this castle and try and help the faithfuls as much as possible catching traitors.<\/p>\n
“I\u2019m really proud to say that\u2019s what I\u2019ve been able to do, under the circumstances. I am, reluctantly, a traitor.”<\/p>\n
Acaster is the second traitor this series to reveal their true identity before getting caught, after Richard E Grant accidentally revealed he was a traitor moments after being chosen.<\/p>\n
Earlier in Thursday\u2019s episode, actress Sharon Rooney was murdered and comedian Joanne McNally was banished from the castle.<\/p>\n
Traitors, TV presenter Maya Jama and social media star King Kenny, and faithfuls, singer James Blunt, Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock, actor Michael Sheen, comedian Romesh Ranganathan, and actor Sebastian Croft, are left to compete in Friday\u2019s final.<\/p>\n
Viewers did not get an indication of who Jama and King Kenny were planning to murder at the end of Thursday\u2019s show.<\/p>\n
Jama attracted heat during the beginning of the episode, when she toasted her fellow contestants by saying: “To killing them, banishing them even.”<\/p>\n
During Thursday\u2019s mission, contestants collected \u00a35,000 for the prize pot, bringing it to a total of \u00a364,500.<\/p>\n
Twenty one celebrity contestants take part in the show, with those assigned faithful attempting to identify the contestants who have been made traitors. The traitors “kill off” players in the middle of the night.<\/p>\n
They are playing the game at Ardross Castle in the Highlands, with a cash prize of up to \u00a3100,000 for a charity of their choice up for grabs.<\/p>\n
The Celebrity Traitors final will air on BBC One at 8pm.<\/p>\n
