{"id":670993,"date":"2026-10-31T15:58:13","date_gmt":"2026-10-31T15:58:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/670993\/"},"modified":"2026-10-31T15:58:13","modified_gmt":"2026-10-31T15:58:13","slug":"siptu-announces-industrial-action-at-kostal-in-abbeyfeale-next-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/670993\/","title":{"rendered":"SIPTU announces industrial action at Kostal in Abbeyfeale next month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SIPTU members at the Kostal Ireland plant in Abbeyfeale are to begin a campaign of industrial action &#8211; including work stoppages &#8211; early next month.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The dispute is over redundancy terms and what&#8217;s described as management\u2019s refusal to engage meaningfully with their union.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiokerry.ie\/news\/siptu-declines-to-comment-on-reports-of-impasse-in-redundancy-negotiations-with-kostal-478096\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kostal<\/a> announced plans in January this year to make 140 workers redundant at the end of March 2027, following a decision to move production of onboard chargers to China.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The union says workers will start industrial action with a work stoppage and the placing of pickets on Monday, November 16 at 2.30pm for four hours, with a possible further escalation of the campaign at a later date.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A SIPTU spokesman claims Kostal has refused to engage meaningfully with SIPTU, and declined an invitation to attend the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.workplacerelations.ie\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Workplace Relations Commission<\/a> (WRC) to discuss up to 140 members\u2019 redundancy terms.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s voluntary severance terms were rejected by 96 percent of members in a ballot.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Members subsequently voted by 90 percent in favour of industrial action, and 85 percent in favour of strike action.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kostal, which produces electronic components for the automotive industry, is a major employer in North Kerry and West Limerick.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a statement released on Friday evening, SIPTU says it&#8217;s willing and ready to enter negotiations with the employer directly, or with the assistance of the WRC.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"SIPTU members at the Kostal Ireland plant in Abbeyfeale are to begin a campaign of industrial action &#8211;&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":670994,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[72,61,60,284238],"class_list":["post-670993","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-business","tag-business","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-kostal-workers-to-strike"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/670993","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=670993"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/670993\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/670994"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=670993"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=670993"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=670993"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
