\n\tAmy Poehler<\/a> got earnest about her love for comedy while accepting an honor at the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere\u2019s no greater joy for me than laughing at people who I love \u2014 laughing with them and at them, both! And them laughing with me,\u201d Poehler said on stage at the ceremony, which took place on Thursday at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. \u201cComedy, in many ways, has saved my life many times.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d star Marcello Hern\u00e1ndez presented Poehler with the award, praising her comedic brilliance and calling her a \u201cballer\u201d and a \u201cgift.\u201d Poehler, in turn, said Hern\u00e1ndez was a prime example of why she loves being a comedian: \u201cBecause of the people I get to meet and who I get to work with.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPoehler, who is best known for her work on \u201cSNL,\u201d \u201cParks and Recreation\u201d and, more recently, her podcast \u201cGood Hang,\u201d accepted the award for innovation in comedy. She joined fellow honorees Rosal\u00eda in the music category, Martin McDonagh (film), the Savannah Bananas (sports), Matthieu Blazy (fashion), Marlon James (literature) and Demis Hassabis (technology). Other A-listers on hand at the glitzy event as presenters included Dua Lipa, A$AP Rocky, Patti Smith and Seth Meyers.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn her speech, Poehler also spoke about the importance of escapism in art.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was thinking about the way in which we often insist on being in the present moment. There\u2019s a lot of discussion about remembering where you are, and seeing where your feet are, and staying exactly where you\u2019re supposed to be: present,\u201d Poehler said. \u201cA lot of people in this room help us get away from where we are. A lot of people in this room transport us. I think where we are isn\u2019t often very good. We don\u2019t always want to be feeling what we\u2019re feeling. We don\u2019t always want to be present with what we have going on in our lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe added, \u201cThe storytellers here and the artists here have certainly transported me. They\u2019ve taken me to the future, to the past. They\u2019ve taken me right next door. They let me ride on their wings and their talent. If \u2018Good Hang\u2019 or any of the stuff I\u2019ve ever done made anybody else feel that way, I am very, very grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Amy Poehler got earnest about her love for comedy while accepting an honor at the WSJ.
