Dublin Fire Brigade reported the highest number of Halloween calls it has received in over a decade last night.<\/p>\n
A total of 1,620 calls were dealt with, making it the busiest Halloween night in 15 years, including 669 ambulance calls and 366 Leinster regional fire calls.<\/p>\n
Of the 585 calls Dublin Fire Brigade received, 470 were directly related to Halloween.<\/p>\n
Chief Fire Officer Greg O’Dwyer described the call volume as “extremely high”, but said there were no reports of any firework related injuries.<\/p>\n
He said calls were in relation to house fires or cars being set on fire, as well as anti-social behaviour, and a number of serious road traffic collisions.<\/p>\n
Mr O’Dwyer said that in some areas in the city, stolen cars and debris were used to block off and barricade roads to stop fire trucks getting in.<\/p>\n
He said there were no injuries reported by members of the fire crew.<\/p>\n
He thanked An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na for cooperating with the fire service, adding that local authorities helped matters by running major events.<\/p>\n
“We worked closely with garda\u00ed in certain areas,” he said adding that as Halloween fell on a very dry, mild Saturday night, fires would have spread more easily.<\/p>\n
Separately, Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service reported that between 6pm yesterday and 1am this morning, its fire crews responded to a total of 89 operational incidents.<\/p>\n
Several of these were Halloween-related, including 23 involving bonfires, the service reported.<\/p>\n
