{"id":671978,"date":"2026-11-01T18:22:08","date_gmt":"2026-11-01T18:22:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/671978\/"},"modified":"2026-11-01T18:22:08","modified_gmt":"2026-11-01T18:22:08","slug":"corks-opera-lane-shopping-street-is-sold-in-deal-worth-e20m-e30m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/671978\/","title":{"rendered":"Cork&#8217;s Opera Lane shopping street is sold in deal worth \u20ac20m-\u20ac30m"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">Opera Lane, Cork city\u2019s first purpose-built shopping street, has been acquired by pan-European commercial property investor M Core in a deal understood to be valued at between \u20ac20m-\u20ac30m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The transaction was completed earlier this year, marking M Core\u2019s second acquisition in the Ireland market. Its first was in Dublin in 2025 when the property investor and asset manager acquired the Arena Centre in Tallaght for a reported \u20ac35m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">At the time of acquiring the mixed-use scheme from London-headquartered private equity firm Henderson Park, it pledged to invest further in the Irish real estate market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">On becoming Opera Lane\u2019s new \u201clong-term owner\u201d during the summer, head of Ireland M Core David Nolan made a pledge to \u201cmanage the scheme intensively \u2014 supporting the retailers who trade here, improving the experience for their customers, and keeping Opera Lane at the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"\"\/> centre of Cork city life\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">[\/url]Sebastian Macdonald-Hall, chief investment officer (Europe) at M Core, described Opera Lane as \u201ca high-quality asset in a prime city centre location and a strong addition to our growing Irish portfolio\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe look forward to building on Opera Lane\u2019s success and supporting its future growth,\u201d Mr Macdonald-Hall said, adding that they had ambitions to expand further in the Republic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe see significant long-term potential across the country and will continue to look for opportunities where we can invest, add value and grow our presence,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Developed by O\u2019Callaghan Properties (OCP) in the mid-noughties, Opera Lane was held by private investors for a time and was first brought to market in February 2023, when agents Cushman &amp; Wakefield launched it with a guide price of \u20ac26.75m. At one point, a group of local investors expressed interest in acquiring it, but the deal did not advance after the closure in February 2025 of New Look, a fashion retailer that occupied a double unit on the street.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">That unit has remained vacant since, but it is understood letting agents Savills are in early talks with a potential replacement retailer.
