Principal • Emergent Method

David Carter left Louisiana at 18 unsure whether the state could offer the future he wanted. Now he helps shape that future.

At Emergent Method, he rose from senior consultant to principal in three years, the fastest ascent in the firm’s history. There, he established and helped grow its energy and economic development practice, giving younger colleagues opportunities to work on consequential Louisiana projects.

Carter led the firm’s support for Louisiana Economic Development’s 2025 statewide strategic plan and the state’s Whole-of-Louisiana Energy Strategy. He also helped develop Louisiana’s Nuclear Strategic Framework, bringing government, utilities and industry leaders into discussions about the state’s next energy opportunities.

His work reaches infrastructure that residents depend on. He leads management of the Louisiana HERO Program, a $500 million grid resilience initiative designed to strengthen infrastructure and improve power reliability.

As a Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank board member, he supports the region’s fight against hunger. Raising his children here has made his mission personal: helping Louisiana become a place where more people can see a future worth staying for.

The best business advice I’d share: “Life is results or bullsh*t. Success is never permanent. Every single day, keep earning trust, doing the work and proving you were worth the opportunities you’ve been given.”
