{"id":676080,"date":"2026-11-05T20:52:08","date_gmt":"2026-11-05T20:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/676080\/"},"modified":"2026-11-05T20:52:08","modified_gmt":"2026-11-05T20:52:08","slug":"investigation-under-way-after-workplace-death-on-gaa-grounds-in-carlow-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/676080\/","title":{"rendered":"Investigation under way after workplace death on GAA grounds in Carlow \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A man has died following a workplace incident on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/sport\/gaelic-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/sport\/gaelic-games\/\">GAA<\/a> grounds in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/carlow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/carlow\/\">Co Carlow<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The deceased, who was aged in his 50s, worked at Netwatch Cullen Park in Carlow town. The stadium is the home of the Carlow Gaelic football and hurling teams and has a capacity of 11,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Garda\u00ed and emergency services attended the scene of the incident at about 10.30am on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A Garda spokesperson said medical treatment was administered to the man though he was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In a statement, Carlow GAA said it \u201cexpresses its sympathies and offers its condolences to the family of the scheme worker who was fatally injured\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cCarlow GAA is co-operating with the statutory bodies as appropriate and is working with the GAA\u2019s own national health and safety committee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cOur thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased at this sad time.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The State Pathologist has been notified and a postmortem is due to be carried out. A file will also be prepared for the Coroner\u2019s Court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/health-and-safety-authority\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/health-and-safety-authority\/\">Health and Safety Authority<\/a> was notified and has launched an investigation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A man has died following a workplace incident on GAA grounds in Co Carlow on Thursday.
