He co-authored the paper with physicists SP Singh and Nandan S Bisht.Kumar said the findings could help improve technologies used in microchip manufacturing and optical fibre communication.In microchip manufacturing, specialised optical systems use light to inspect and work on extremely small components inside processors. These processors are used in mobile phones and computers. A better understanding of how light behaves could help researchers improve the precision of these optical systems, Kumar said.He said the research could also have applications in optical fibre communication, where data travels through fibre-optic cables in the form of light pulses. \u201cWhen we make a video call, watch a video or send information over the internet, large amounts of data travel through optical fibre cables in the form of light pulses. Understanding how different components of light behave and remain connected could help researchers develop more efficient and reliable ways of transmitting information,\u201d he said.Kumar said only a few institutions and researchers in India work in this specialised field.He said the research was theoretical and would need advanced laboratory equipment to test its findings through experiments. \u201cDeveloping mathematical formulae and verifying them through experiments are two different stages of scientific research.
