Police are working to contact possible victims in a case involving a former Donegal priest charged with child sex offences, a court has heard.<\/p>\n
Fr Edward \u2018Eddie\u2019 Gallagher (58), of Orchard Park, Lifford, is charged with one count of attempted sexual communication with a child between 2 April and 17 April this year.<\/p>\n
He faces seven further charges, including inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and causing a child to watch sexual activity, alleged to have taken place on 17 April.<\/p>\n
Derry Magistrates\u2019 Court was told today that detectives have now completed the examination of electronic devices in the case. A previous hearing was informed there could be more than 60 possible victims.<\/p>\n
Today\u2019s court was told the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is liaising with other police services as part of the investigation.<\/p>\n
According to BBC Northern Ireland, defence barrister Stephen Chapman acknowledged the update but said the exercise to contact the people could \u201cpotentially take a very long time.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the defence would need a more \u201cdetailed update as to what needs to be done and what is being done\u201d.<\/p>\n
Deputy District Judge Trevor Browne said the defence would need to be given \u201csome sort of structured outline\u201d of the investigation\u2019s progress.<\/p>\n
The case was adjourned until next month and Fr Eddie Gallagher was remanded back into custody.<\/p>\n
