Demi Doyle, producer on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/amazon\/\" id=\"auto-tag_amazon_1\" data-tag=\"amazon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon<\/a> Prime Video docuseries Molly-Mae: Behind It All, is beaming at the wings. \u201cI don\u2019t think she actually realizes how much people love her and invest in her life,\u201d Doyle tells The Hollywood Reporter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMolly-Mae Hague soon emerges from a plume of hairspray \u2014 her signature blonde blowout expertly styled \u2014\u00a0ready to shoot a Christmas commercial for British beauty megastore LookFantastic. But behind the cameras waits an entirely separate crew, poised to capture the shoot\u2019s behind-the-scenes moments. When the LookFantastic team yell cut, Hague\u2019s posse immediately resumes filming on the second season of Behind It All from the dressing room. The woman\u2019s on two sets at once.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWorking two jobs at the same time is an apt summary of the hustle that has so far defined the career of the U.K.\u2019s biggest influencer, who is the de facto poster child for girlboss content creation across the pond. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/digital\/top-global-influencers-1236208890\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">THR\u2018s top international influencers list<\/a> dubs Hague, proud owner of fashion brand Maebe, Britain\u2019s answer to Kim Kardashian. Just last week, she hit the runway for L\u2019Or\u00e9al\u2019s Paris Fashion Week show alongside Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne, Eva Longoria, Heidi Klum and Andie MacDowell, to name a few.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLove Island fans in the U.S. will no-doubt recognize Hague as the 2019 runner-up of ITV\u2019s hit show, where she met boxer Tommy Fury (brother of heavyweight champion Tyson). Since her exit from what was the pinnacle of reality television in Hague\u2019s native Britain \u2014\u00a0her season remains the best-performing of all 12 installments of Love Island U.K., with over six million tuning in at its peak \u2014\u00a0she\u2019s built a social media empire. Through controversy, a shock split, motherhood and an award-winning TV show, Hague has remained the envy of young women everywhere. THR was invited to the set for an exclusive look and sit-down with Hague on her doc\u2019s second season, before the first three episodes drop Oct. 18.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cOversharing is my middle name,\u201d Hague says from her dressing room chair, make-up still perfect after hours of filming. \u201cI was plummeted into the public eye at 19, a teenager, and now I\u2019m 26 with a child, and I feel like my audience has grown up with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tShe shares two-year-old Bambi with Fury, discovering a whole new audience on YouTube and Instagram (Hague boasts an eye-watering 10.5 million followers on these two platforms alone, more than any other Love Island contestant ever), who can\u2019t get enough of her keeping-it-real-but-still-effortlessly-glamorous-mom content. \u201cI have to give credit where credit is due,\u201d says Hague about her Love Island stint. \u201cThe show helped so much to push me and my platform. I really love creating content \u2014\u00a0I love this job, I love what I do \u2014\u00a0[but]\u2026 I really didn\u2019t expect to actually meet anybody. In August last year, women gasped in unison nationwide as Hague announced her split from Fury after five years together \u2014 and one engagement \u2014 via a statement on Instagram. The first season of Behind It All documented the fallout, offering up a candid picture of Fury\u2019s relationship with alcohol and Hague\u2019s single-mother struggles while he traveled abroad for big-time boxing bouts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTo get Hague in front of the camera after such public heartache was not an easy feat. \u201cAnything I commit to I want to give it 110 percent, and I\u2019m very particular about how things look,\u201d she explains. \u201cWhen I make my own content, I\u2019m in complete control \u2014\u00a0handing over that control to Demi and Amazon was a huge, vulnerable thing for me to do.\u201d But the social media star also immediately understood the name of the game. \u201cYou can\u2019t go on a show like Love Island and then suddenly want to pull your relationship back from the public eye,\u201d she says about her romance with Fury. \u201cI knew what I was signing up for, and I never found it a challenge. Yeah, there\u2019s some days where I wish I could deal with it in private, but that\u2019s not the world that I\u2019m in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDoyle\u2019s original plan was to document Hague and Fury\u2019s wedding build-up. After their split, she was convinced Hague could hold up the show by herself. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t easy to get her to do it alone,\u201d says Doyle, creative director of production outfit Navybee (within the Workerbee Group, part of Banijay U.K.) \u201cI know that Amazon were really keen to get her, because she did have that kind of raw, intimate side that we could really capture \u2014\u00a0her YouTube is great and her socials are great, but there was always something else that people want to see behind that,\u201d she explains to THR.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAveraging over one million views on each of her vlogs, Hague\u2019s content represents something that hoards of young people have deemed aspirational. Slicked-back hair and glowy skin at the wheel of an expensive car, a carousel of sun-kissed vacation selfies or an autumnal hot chocolate shared with Bambi: her aesthetic is clean, chic and just the right amount of relatability.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI still don\u2019t think she understands how big she is and what an impact she has,\u201d says Doyle about Hague\u2019s unprecedented success. \u201cEven now, [making] series two, she\u2019s like: \u2018Why do you want to film that?\u2019 And it\u2019s because people are interested in that. People want to know what Molly-Mae\u2019s McDonald\u2019s order is. [I say], \u2018People want to know that side of your life.&#8217;\u201d Doyle was right. Behind It All scored the highest opening day rating for a show on\u00a0Prime Video\u00a0in the U.K. upon its January release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tRecalls Hague: \u201cI loved that the cameras just followed what was naturally going on. Nothing felt staged, nothing felt like it was forced.\u201d Evidently, this authenticity translated just as they\u2019d hoped beyond Amazon ratings: on Sept. 10, Hague and Doyle became National Television Award winners for Molly-Mae: Behind It All. Its star was applauded for letting her guard down \u2014 through tumultuous relationships, the growing pains of launching her own clothing company and even a frightful horseback-riding fall, she remained committed to laying bare the inner workings of Molly-Mae.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn season two, Hague and the team have found more even ground. \u201cIt feels like a lot more relaxed,\u201d says the Brit. \u201cLife is a bit calmer now, which is nice for me. It\u2019s nice for Bambi and it\u2019s nice for Tommy,\u201d she adds (the couple reconciled earlier this year). \u201cWhat you\u2019ll see will be motherhood, the real ups and downs. We do a bit about potty training and the fun of that, and [also cover] me and my confidence and rebuilding myself since last year \u2014\u00a0the hurdles that happened with my relationship \u2014\u00a0finding myself again, how to fill my own cup while working and juggling Bambi.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThroughout our interview, Hague\u2019s team are setting up for their next shot. Doyle asks her a couple of questions to get the star chatting to the camera: \u201cWhat are we doing today, Molly?\u201d She\u2019s needed back on the LookFantastic set soon. There\u2019s no denying how at-home she appears, surrounded by fuss and pomp. But Hague\u2019s not so sure she agrees. \u201cWe talk about imposter syndrome a lot. I think I have it every day,\u201d she confesses. \u201cIt\u2019s really hard to accept sometimes that you\u2019ve gone from being a person to suddenly being on shoots with teams that want you to be happy. I try not to think about it too much. Why me? Am I worthy? Should it be me?\u201d questions Hague. \u201cWe talk about that a lot [in season two].\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTHR has to ask, then, if she were to hazard a guess: why does Molly-Mae think people love Molly-Mae? It turns out, it\u2019s the not-so-glam outtakes that she thinks audiences are interested in. \u201cPeople are nosy,\u201d she says. \u201cOn Instagram, the picture looks perfect. On YouTube [or in Behind It All], you can see I was actually having a meltdown that day or my toddler\u2019s had a tantrum, and I\u2019m not actually finding it that easy. I think people really resonate when you tell the story behind the glossy highlight reel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHer Instagram and YouTube capture perfectly this stark contrast: all of the glamor-laced photoshoots and red carpet moments are counterbalanced by run-of-the-mill moments at home (Hague is a self-professed homebody, and movie-lover too \u2014\u00a0her favorite pastime is watching horror films).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tPutting your life up online \u2014 and on one of the biggest streaming platforms in the world \u2014 is an occupation that requires an almighty thick skin. Hague is well-aware. In 2021, the influencer was widely criticized for an appearance on Steven Bartlett\u2019s The Diary Of A CEO podcast where she told the host about her business-savvy brain: \u201cWe all have the same 24 hours in a day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe comments were swiftly dubbed \u201ctone-deaf\u201d and born out of Hague\u2019s privilege, but she\u2019s first to hear the haters out. \u201cIt\u2019s necessary to put my hands up and say, \u2018Guys, I definitely could have said that better,&#8217;\u201d says Hague about catching flak. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t happen all the time because I\u2019m very, very careful \u2014\u00a0I try to be as uncontroversial as possible and keep it light-hearted.\u201d When she does feel the need to respond to negative comments, Hague doesn\u2019t take the bait. She has a handy habit to keep her sanity in check: \u201cIf I\u2019ve seen something and I really want to respond, I\u2019ll open my notes app and I just type down what I want to say, and then I turn my phone off. You don\u2019t press send, you don\u2019t press post, but you\u2019ve gotten it out, and you\u2019ve said what you needed to say.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAs Hague looks to season two of Molly-Mae: Behind It All \u2014 which, like the first, is releasing in two parts \u2014 she confesses to no longer dwelling so much on the hate and hysteria. The businesswoman will continue to fortify her legacy as the U.K.\u2019s shrewdest influencer through brand deals and TV acclaim, but her hunger for success is no longer driven by self-motivation. It\u2019s driven by Bambi. \u201cI want to create an incredible life for her,\u201d says Hague.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWhen I came off [Love Island], I didn\u2019t think I was gonna have this forever\u2026 Now we\u2019re six years down the line and I\u2019m still taking every opportunity that comes, if it feels right. And a lot of it is for Bambi. I don\u2019t know when I\u2019ll stop working but [I will continue] so that when she\u2019s older, she can have an amazing life.\u201d She\u2019s called back to set. \u201cThere\u2019s a higher purpose now, not just me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSeries two of Molly-Mae: Behind It All\u00a0(episodes 1-3) launches exclusively on Prime Video on Oct. 18.
