Ray D\u2019Arcy<\/a> on Thursday became the latest presenter to leave RT\u00c9<\/a> after a string of high-profile departures. <\/p>\n

Mr D\u2019Arcy (61) said he was \u201chugely disappointed\u201d with how management at RT\u00c9 handled his situation<\/a>. It is not yet clear what he plans to do next, but the presenter said he was looking forward \u201cto the opportunities ahead\u201d. <\/p>\n

Mr D\u2019Arcy was the second-highest paid individual at RT\u00c9 in 2019 \u2013 behind Ryan Tubridy<\/a> \u2013 but saw his salary drop from \u20ac450,000 that year to \u20ac305,000 in 2020 and 2021<\/a>, after his Saturday-night chatshow came to an end. In 2022 and 2023, he was paid \u20ac250,000<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the height of the RT\u00c9 payment scandal in 2023, RT\u00c9 director general Kevin Bakhurst<\/a> brought in pay caps and announced that no one at the broadcaster would earn more than him. His current salary is \u20ac250,000, but that might increase under new Government pay structures.<\/p>\n

Several of the top-earning presenters have since left the broadcaster including Mr Tubridy and Joe Duffy<\/a>. Claire Byrne<\/a> will also soon depart, having announced her plans to move to Newstalk<\/a> in the new year.<\/p>\n

Mr Tubridy left RT\u00c9 amid controversy in 2023 after it emerged that, between 2017 and 2022, he had received \u20ac345,000 more in payments from the broadcaster than was previously disclosed. He was already the biggest earner at RT\u00c9, with the extra payments bringing his income to in excess of \u20ac500,000 annually for those years.<\/p>\n

In August, Mr Tubridy announced he had repaid RT\u00c9 \u20ac150,000<\/a>.<\/p>\n

His salary when he left Montrose was significantly reduced from a peak of \u20ac752,950 in 2012. Mr Tubridy presented a morning show on RT\u00c9 Radio 1 as well as The Late Late Show on RT\u00c9 One.<\/p>\n

Pat Kenny<\/a> was RT\u00c9\u2019s highest earner in 2012, when he was paid \u20ac728,417 before his departure for Newstalk the following year. In 2008, he had been paid \u20ac950,976.<\/p>\n

Joe Duffy, who was RT\u00c9\u2019s top earner after Mr Tubridy left, retired in June after 37 years with the broadcaster<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 2019, Mr Duffy was paid \u20ac392,494. This dropped to \u20ac360,650 in 2020 and \u20ac351,000 in 2021, 2022 and 2023.<\/p>\n

In August, Ms Byrne announced she was leaving RT\u00c9 to take up a new role at Newstalk<\/a>. Her salary in 2023 was \u20ac280,000, making her the second-highest earner at the station after Mr Duffy. In 2021, she earned \u20ac350,000.<\/p>\n

RT\u00c9 has yet to publish its 2024 annual report. In its 2023 annual report, executive salaries for senior managers were included for the first time. <\/p>\n

Executives made up several of the broadcaster\u2019s top 10 earners including Adrian Lynch, deputy director general, on \u20ac286,926; Richard Waghorn, director of operations, technology and transformation, on \u20ac281,750; and Deirdre McCarthy, managing director of news and current affairs, on \u20ac273,490.<\/p>\n

Presenter Miriam O\u2019Callaghan<\/a> was number seven on the list that year, earning \u20ac263,500.<\/p>\n
