A MAN who died after volunteering as a motorbike marshal at a charity<\/a> event earlier in the day, has been remembered for giving up his time almost every weekend at various charity events around County Limerick.\u00a0<\/p>\n

John Sheehan, a native of Lisduane, Granagh, died on Sunday last (October 12, 2025) in a fatal single-vehicle road traffic collision.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The collision happened around 7pm on the R519 – the road between Kilmeedy and Dromcollogher, in a townland called Callahow.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The road remained closed for a considerable period to allow for a forensic examination.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The motorcyclist, who was 57-years-old, was pronounced dead at the scene and Limerick Live understands that he had volunteered his time at a charity event earlier that day.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rockhill-Bruree Defibrillator Association held a vintage run in memory of Declan \u2018Doc\u2019 Doherty, with more than 100 cars, tractors, commercials and bikes, raising just over \u20ac3,000.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

An organiser told Limerick Live that Mr Sheehan was always very supportive and on the day, he paid to take part, supporting the fundraiser and also volunteered as a marshal to monitor traffic and ensure that the event runs smoothly and safely.\u00a0<\/p>\n

TD Richard O\u2019Donoghue, who lives in the Granagh parish and is also a fellow motorbike enthusiast, said that Mr Sheehan was well-known within the biker and vintage communities and would always give his time freely as a volunteer marshal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Deputy O\u2019Donoghue said: \u201cI was in Strand last week at a charity event and he was there as well. He recently got a crane licence and would have worked as a machinery driver for years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe lived in Dublin for a long time, but has been helping out at community events since he came back to the locality.\u201d<\/p>\n

He told Limerick Live: \u201cI\u2019ve known John for a long time and it\u2019s very sad to see. I got a call late [on the night Mr Sheehan died] and I\u2019m very sorry to his family for such a loss, and to all of his friends and people within the wider community who would have known him. God rest his soul.\u201d<\/p>\n

A post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death took place in University Hospital Limerick and a file was sent to the office for the Limerick coroner.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Garda\u00ed continue to appeal to anyone who might have information or dash-cam footage to contact them in Henry Street garda station on 061 212400, the garda confidential line on 1800 666111, or any garda station.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was travelling in the area between 6.15pm and 7.15pm on Sunday, October 12.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr Sheehan is survived by his beloved family and a wide circle of family and friends.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He will repose at O\u2019Grady\u2019s funeral home in Ballingarry on Wednesday (October 15) from 5-7pm, arriving to St Joseph\u2019s Church, Granagh on Thursday for 11.30am Requiem Mass, with burial afterwards in the local cemetery.\u00a0<\/p>\n

May he rest in peace.<\/p>\n
