{"id":85002,"date":"2025-10-16T19:34:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T19:34:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/85002\/"},"modified":"2025-10-16T19:34:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T19:34:12","slug":"fitness-consumers-want-more-than-just-workouts-execs-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/85002\/","title":{"rendered":"Fitness Consumers Want More Than Just Workouts, Execs Say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ATN breaks down key takeaways gleaned from a consumer insights panel held at the recent invite-only Mindbody SA Summit, which brought together top executives in fitness and wellness <\/p>\n<p>Longevity, personalization and community are redefining the fitness experience, founders and executives said at the invite-only Mindbody SA Summit, held recently in Missoula, Montana.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During a consumer insights panel held at the Summit, industry leaders shared how their brands are adapting to a fitness and wellness landscape that\u2019s expanding beyond the traditional workout.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Moderated by ATN founder and CEO Edward Hertzman, the panel featured Solidcore vice president of strategy Gillian Almeida, Organic Bronze Bar founder Danielle Van Auken, F45 Training multi-unit franchisee Steven Sullivan, and CorePlus founder and managing director Michael King.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>ATN breaks down some key takeaways from the discussion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s About More Than Just Fitness<\/p>\n<p>The panelists all agreed that even hardcore fitness consumers have come to expect more than just a workout at their gym or studio of choice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important to focus on longevity\u2026people are thinking about fitness as one puzzle piece of their overall wellness journey,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/solidcore.co\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Solidcore<\/a>\u2018s Almeida said. <\/p>\n<p>King, whose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.core-plus.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">CorePlus<\/a> operates Pilates and Yoga studios in Australia and the U.S., echoed that sentiment, emphasizing connection as a key part of the experience.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople want more than a workout now; they are craving connection,\u201d he said. \u201cThey want to be part of a community \u2014 it\u2019s not transactional, and it\u2019s more than just showing up for a class.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sullivan added that <a href=\"https:\/\/f45training.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">F45<\/a> has adapted its offerings in response to this new consumer mindset.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, people want to bring their friends, family, they want to try different modalities <a href=\"https:\/\/athletechnews.com\/is-classpass-good-for-fitness-studios\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">using ClassPass<\/a> \u2026 so seeing that trend, we\u2019ve adapted to provide more of an experience rather than just a workout,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/2024-09_Recovery_By_F45_Recovery_Space_2-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"F45 recovery room\" class=\"wp-image-132134\"  \/>F45 studios can now offer cold plunges and saunas, a move to expand beyond fitness (credit: F45 Training)<\/p>\n<p>Personalization Takes Center Stage<\/p>\n<p>For Almeida, delivering a sense of connection across Solidcore\u2019s 100-plus locations starts with data-driven personalization.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur clients are demanding more personalization at scale,\u201d she said. \u201cIn order to do that, we have to deeply understand our consumers \u2026 and build experiences around them as individuals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One emerging form of personalization is pregnancy-friendly programming, with King seeing a demand among CorePlus members who \u201cwant to continue moving safely before and after pregnancy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has encouraged us to lean into working closely with the product teams and training education teams to create pregnancy-friendly classes,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>AI Is Fueling Efficiency, Not Replacing Human Connection<\/p>\n<p>As AI becomes more embedded in business operations and everyday life, panelists agreed that <a href=\"https:\/\/athletechnews.com\/atn-innovation-summit-playlist-ceo-fritz-lanman-ai-artificial-intelligence\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence\u2019s biggest value lies in freeing up time for human connection<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we can get rid of 80% of tasks that are coming through \u2026 that frees (staff) up for the member experience so they can connect 1-1 with members,\u201d Sullivan said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fitness and wellness brands can also leverage AI to help with long-term planning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m using it more for research and demographics and helping franchisees when we\u2019re looking at different areas to branch out with our next location,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/organicbronzebar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Organic Bronze Bar<\/a>\u2018s Van Auken shared.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re using AI \u2026 to understand what types of classes at what time should be on the schedule, who should coach those classes, getting really smart about schedule optimization,\u201d Almeida added. \u201cWe\u2019re using it in client experience, member retention and engagement, and then a small example that we have recently launched is AI-moderated client interview panels.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s certainly not a replacement for human insights, but for quick and dirty insights, it\u2019s pretty powerful,\u201d she added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image2-1024x683.webp.webp\" alt=\"interior of a Solidcore studio\" class=\"wp-image-101329\"  \/>credit: [solidcore]<\/p>\n<p>Word of Mouth Still Rules<\/p>\n<p>Despite advances in tech, old-fashioned word of mouth remains the most powerful growth driver for fitness and wellness brands, the panelists noted.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>  See Also<\/p>\n<p>    <a href=\"https:\/\/athletechnews.com\/the-gym-as-a-clinic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"180\" height=\"180\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Egym-180x180.webp.webp\" class=\"attachment-theissue-thumbnail-x2 size-theissue-thumbnail-x2 wp-post-image\" alt=\"Person screening another on a device\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The number one marketing channel for us is still referral or word of mouth\u2026that doesn\u2019t just happen by accident. Obviously, you need to deliver amazing experiences for that to eventuate,\u201d King said. <\/p>\n<p>Sullivan cautioned against relying too heavily on paid ads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the last five years, we\u2019ve gotten sucked into this vortex of \u2018all of our leads are going to come from digital ads,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m more of a fan of going out and getting referrals, reciprocity, getting out into the community and talking to people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Almeida added that while word of mouth is paramount, it\u2019s important that brands don\u2019t neglect other marketing channels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWord of mouth is definitely number one for us, but when we think about other marketing channels, what we find is that when they all work in combination, there\u2019s a multiplier effect,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Culture &amp; Consistency Power Growth<\/p>\n<p>As brands look to scale, the panelists stressed the importance of balancing local authenticity in new markets with maintaining brand integrity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know and understand that the local partnerships are so important\u2026but there needs to be some central system in process because we\u2019re so protective of our valuable brand,\u201d Almeida said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A strong culture is key to striking that balance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we\u2019re selecting the owners, I make it crystal clear: this is what our culture is\u2026it\u2019s drilled so much (and) we have been very lucky that our owners just get it,\u201d said Van Auken, whose Organic Bronze Bar operates on a franchise model.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>King shared that CorePlus sent a team from Australia to help open its Phoenix, Arizona, location \u201cto try and scale culture in person.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brands also must resist the temptation to expand too fast.
