Downings man Eric Roberts has added another strand to his career with the launch of a children\u2019s book.<\/p>\n
Eric, who is the newest Ireland AM host, has penned a book titled \u2018Gary the Stinky Goose\u2019 about friendship and integration.<\/p>\n
The book was inspired by Eric\u2019s previous career as an SNA and his nephew Ois\u00edn, who has cerebral palsy.<\/p>\n
Eric said he noticed children at breaks and lunchtimes not interacting with the students he was working with. Through a funny tale about a farting goose, his book inspires children to be brave against bullies.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt doesn\u2019t mention disabilities or inclusion, it\u2019s just a conversation starter for parents and educators to have at the end of reading the story,\u201d Eric told Ireland AM.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we instil that early enough in our children, that will stay with them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Eric has taken a comedic approach to the story. Gary the Stinky Goose is a laugh-out-loud tale about a goose with a gassy problem and a big heart.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was months of research to find out what kids find funny. After much deliberation, farts,\u201d he jokes.<\/p>\n
His own journey into fatherhood, following the arrival of his son, R\u00edan, with his wife Niamh this year, also provided a new perspective. He said, \u201cI want my son to grow up in a world where it\u2019s okay to be different and where kindness comes first.\u201d<\/p>\n
The deeper inspiration for his work came from his family.<\/p>\n
He says, \u201cMy wonderful nephew Ois\u00edn, who has cerebral palsy, inspired me to write this book and taught me so much about the importance of celebrating every child. I am still passionate about supporting children of all abilities, and I hope this story helps share the joy of inclusion.\u201d<\/p>\n
Eric Roberts, who gained fame on TikTok and Instagram, has moved to Dublin with his family to take on his new role with Virgin Media Television. His connection to Donegal remains strong as he and his wife Niamh are currently building their forever home in the north west.<\/p>\n
