{"id":85695,"date":"2025-10-17T03:30:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T03:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/85695\/"},"modified":"2025-10-17T03:30:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T03:30:08","slug":"tate-buys-three-works-at-frieze-london-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/85695\/","title":{"rendered":"Tate Buys Three Works at Frieze London 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOn Wednesday, at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/frieze\/\" id=\"auto-tag_frieze\" data-tag=\"frieze\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Frieze<\/a> London VIP day, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/tate\/\" id=\"auto-tag_tate\" data-tag=\"tate\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tate<\/a> kept busy, acquiring three new works by female artists for its collection.<\/p>\n<p>They are Tanzanian, London-based artist Lubna Chowdhary\u2019s ceramic and wooden sculpture titled Assembly\u00a0(2025), bought from Jhaveri Contemporary gallery; a cont\u00e9, charcoal, and pastel on paper titled End of Affair II (2025) by British artist Barabra Walker from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/t\/victoria-miro\/\" id=\"auto-tag_victoria-miro\" data-tag=\"victoria-miro\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Victoria Miro<\/a>; and Untitled (Venus Mid Heaven), 1920-30, ink on calco, by the late British artist Madge Gill, which was sold by the Gallery of Everything at Frieze Masters.<\/p>\n<p>The works were acquired through the Frieze Tate Fund, which offers \u00a3150,000 in philanthropic support. The cash was previously provided by Endeavor, the fair\u2019s former owner. (Ariel Emanuel, via his newly formed company now called Mari, finalized the acquisition of Frieze, the company that includes its namesake publication, seven art fairs around the world, and two exhibition spaces, earlier this month.) <\/p>\n<p>Since Frieze London first launched in 2003, Tate has acquired more than 170 works by over 100 artists at the fair. \u201cThese works have since been seen by millions of visitors in Tate\u2019s four galleries and have been shared with museums and galleries across the UK and beyond,\u201d the museum said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tRelated Articles<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artnews.com\/wp-content\/themes\/vip\/pmc-artnews-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1760671808_150_Frieze-2025-Ginny-on-Frederick-01_crop-1.jpg\" alt=\"A sculpture of some tied together with rope.\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"\" width=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWe are delighted that the Frieze Tate Fund has continued this year thanks to generous philanthropic support, allowing us to enrich Tate\u2019s collection with these outstanding works,\u201d Maria Balshaw, Tate\u2019s director, said. \u201cI know they will make fantastic additions to our galleries and I look forward to being able to share them with the public in the years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Frieze Tate Fund selection panel was spearheaded by Gregor Muir (director of Tate\u2019s collection), alongside Dominique Heyse-Moore (a senior curator at Contemporary British Art), Nicoletta Lambertucci (a curator at Modern and Contemporary British Art), and Valentine Umansky (a curator at International Art).<\/p>\n<p>At last year\u2019s fair, Tate acquired works by Naminapu Maymuru-White, Mohammed Z.
