The pavilion is scheduled to open on Nov. 20.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__image-by color_dgray f_s_xxs m-none\">Eric Slade \/ OPB<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text article-body--padding color_dgray m-none\">The Portland Art Museum will soon debut more than 100,000 square feet of additional space, which includes the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opb.org\/radio\/article\/portland-art-museum-major-new-building-mark-rothko\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Rothko Pavilion<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text article-body--padding color_dgray m-none\">The pavilion will provide a gap in the museum\u2019s structure. For the past two decades, PAM has stood as two buildings: the Pietro Belluschi Building (which houses the main entrance) and the Mark Building. The new pavilion will connect the pair and open Nov. 20. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text article-body--padding color_dgray m-none\">\u201cSo it\u2019ll add a sense of connectivity, literally and figuratively. He announced in August he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opb.org\/article\/2025\/08\/20\/portland-art-museum-brian-ferriso-oregon-renovations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">will move to lead the Dallas Museum of Art<\/a> starting Dec. 1. A successor for Ferriso has not been named. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text article-body--padding color_dgray m-none\">As the name suggests, the new pavilion will feature major works by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opb.org\/video\/2016\/09\/24\/sept-25-1903-artist-mark-rothko-born\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mark Rothko<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text article-body--padding color_dgray m-none\">Rothko, an acclaimed artist of the 20th century known for his vibrant abstract oil paintings, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonencyclopedia.org\/articles\/rothko_mark_1903_1970_\/#.XjsijyMwj-k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">grew up in Portland<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text article-body--padding color_dgray m-none\">OPB got a tour ahead of the pavilion\u2019s public opening.
