He went on to be captain of the Original All Blacks 1905-06, and a WWI hero, securing his legacy as one of the all-time sporting greats<\/p>\n<p>Recently at Eden Park, a dawn ceremony took place to remove a piece of turf from the pitch to begin its journey across the world to Ireland, for a special soil exchange in honour of Gallaher.<\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegallive.ie\/news\/gaa-lgfa\/1922104\/sanding-and-seeding-of-maccumhaill-parks-new-playing-surface-complete.html\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sanding and seeding of MacCumhaill Park\u2019s new playing surface complete<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The event in Eden Park was led by Ngati Whatua Orakei, 3\/6 Battalion RNZIR, and Lt. Gen. Sir Jerry Mateparae, GNZM, QSO, KStJ, former Ambassador to Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>This soil exchange is part of a documentary being made by Jude Dobson ONZM.
