Ayo Edebiri<\/a>\u2019s facial expressions are about to take you on a journey.<\/p>\n

The \u201cBear\u201d star has gone viral thanks to the way she recently navigated a very tense interview moment. Meanwhile, an Italian journalist who was interviewing Edebiri was forced to release a statement<\/a> Sunday, writing on Instagram that she has \u201cbeen subjected to personal insults and attacks because of a question that, for some reason, was not well received by some members of the public.\u201d<\/p>\n

The incident occurred last week while Edebiri and her co-stars, Julia Roberts<\/a> and Andrew Garfield<\/a>, were speaking to the Italian outlet ArtsLife Tv<\/a> about their upcoming movie \u201cAfter the Hunt,\u201d and the reporter, Federica Polidoro, asked the actors what they felt had been \u201clost during the politically correct era\u201d of America.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat [do] we have to expect in Hollywood after the MeToo movement and the Black Lives Matter are done?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n

Although Polidoro\u2019s question might have made some sense in the context of the film \u2014 considering that the Luca Guadagnino-helmed project explores both those themes \u2014 what made the question odd was that the Italian journalist specifically addressed Roberts and Garfield, but not Edebiri, who is a Black woman.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe two of you,\u201d she said immediately after she asked the question, clarifying she was speaking specifically to the white actors. <\/p>\n

In response to the question, a stunned Garfield dramatically turned to his co-stars and let out a flabbergasted laugh. <\/p>\n

\u201cUm, well, OK,\u201d a shocked and visibly upset Edebiri began as Roberts, who appeared perplexed, turned to Edebiri apologetically.<\/p>\n

Roberts then tried to give the reporter an out. <\/p>\n

\u201cUh, can you repeat that?\u201d Roberts asked. \u201cWith your sunglasses on, I can\u2019t tell which one of us you\u2019re talking to, so\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, the question was for Julia and Andrew,\u201d Polidoro clarified before repeating her question. <\/p>\n

In response, a range of emotions flashed across Edebiri\u2019s face, from comprehension, shock, disgust and anger to disgruntled acceptance.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not done,\u201d Roberts began.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I know that that\u2019s not for me, and I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s purposeful [that] it\u2019s not for me, but \u2026 I don\u2019t think it\u2019s done,\u201d Edebiri said of Americans fighting for racial and gender equality. <\/p>\n

She added, \u201cMaybe if there\u2019s not mainstream coverage in the way that there might have been, daily headlines, in the way that it might have been eight or so years ago. But I don\u2019t think it means that the work is done. That\u2019s what I would say.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s done at all,\u201d Edebiri continued. \u201cI think, maybe, hashtags might not be used as much. But I do think that there\u2019s work being done by activists, by people, every day, that\u2019s beautiful, important work that\u2019s not finished. [That work is] really, really, really active for a reason, because this world is really charged, and that work isn\u2019t finished at all.\u201d <\/p>\n

When a clip of the moment made its way to social media platforms like X and Reddit, some users praised Edebiri for how she handled the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cJesus look how hard she\u2019s working to make sure she can speak up for herself and others without seeming difficult. That must be fucking exhausting,\u201d a Reddit user pointed out<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe way Andrew spun around to face Ayo, and the way Julia called that woman out for wearing her sunglasses\u2026I love that disgusted, united front,\u201d another Redditor said. <\/p>\n

In her Instagram statement Sunday, Polidoro did not address why she excluded Edebiri in her question. Instead, she wrote that she found it \u201cstriking\u201d that people \u201cwho unjustly accuse me of racism and consider themselves custodians of justice\u201d think it\u2019s OK to send her messages that include \u201cviolent language, personal attacks, and cyberbullying.\u201d <\/p>\n

She added, \u201cIn my view, the real racists are those who see racism everywhere and seek to muzzle journalism, limiting freedom of analysis, critical thinking, and the plurality of perspectives.\u201d<\/p>\n
