{"id":92433,"date":"2025-10-20T11:25:06","date_gmt":"2025-10-20T11:25:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/92433\/"},"modified":"2025-10-20T11:25:06","modified_gmt":"2025-10-20T11:25:06","slug":"many-websites-down-amid-amazon-cloud-outage-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/92433\/","title":{"rendered":"Many websites down amid Amazon cloud outage \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/amazon\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/amazon\/\">Amazon\u2019s <\/a>cloud services unit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/amazon-web-services\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/amazon-web-services\">AWS <\/a>was hit by an outage on Monday that took down several popular apps including Fortnite and Snapchat and caused connectivity issues for many companies around the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">AWS said it was seeing increased \u201cerror rates and latencies\u201d for multiple services. \u201cWe are working on multiple parallel paths to accelerate recovery,\u201d it said in its latest update.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The AWS outage is the first major internet disruption since last year\u2019s CrowdStrike malfunction that hobbled technology systems in hospitals, banks and airports globally.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">AWS provides on-demand computing power, data storage and other digital services to companies, governments and individuals. Disruptions to its servers can cause outages across websites and platforms that rely on its cloud infrastructure. AWS competes with Google\u2019s and Microsoft\u2019s cloud services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">AWS directed Reuters to its status page when requested for a comment. Amazon did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">AI startup Perplexity, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase and trading app Robinhood attributed the outages to AWS.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cPerplexity is down right now. The root cause is an AWS issue. We\u2019re working on resolving it,\u201d Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas said in a post on X.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Amazon\u2019s shopping website, PrimeVideo and Alexa were all facing issues, according to Downdetector.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Fortnite, owned by Epic Games, Roblox, Clash Royale and Clash of Clans were among the gaming platforms that were down, while Paypal\u2019s Venmo and Chime were some of the financial platforms that faced issues, the outage tracking website said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Uber rival Lyft\u2019s app was also down for thousands of users in the US.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Messaging app Signal\u2019s President Meredith Whittaker confirmed on X that the company\u2019s platform was hit by the AWS outage as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Britain\u2019s Lloyd Bank, Bank of Scotland and telecom service providers Vodafone and BT were also facing issues, according to DownDetecor\u2019s UK website.
