{"id":93121,"date":"2025-10-20T18:38:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-20T18:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/93121\/"},"modified":"2025-10-20T18:38:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-20T18:38:07","slug":"dan-morrissey-and-saoirse-mccarthy-to-captain-ireland-in-hurling-camogie-shinty-internationals-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/93121\/","title":{"rendered":"Dan Morrissey and Saoirse McCarthy to captain Ireland in Hurling\/Camogie-Shinty internationals \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/limerick-gaa\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/limerick-gaa\/\">Limerick<\/a>\u2019s Dan Morrissey and Cork\u2019s Saoirse McCarthy have been named captains of the Ireland teams for Saturday\u2019s Hurling\/Camogie-Shinty internationals in Inverness. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Ireland men\u2019s team will be jointly managed by Antrim\u2019s Terence McNaughton and Kilkenny\u2019s Michael Kavanagh while Cork\u2019s Ger Manley will take charge of the camogie side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Camogie-Shinty match throws-in at 12pm on Saturday at Bught Park, followed by the by Hurling-Shinty game at 2.10pm. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The double-header will be broadcast live on the BBC Alba YouTube channel and will also be available to view on the GAA website. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cAfter resurrecting the cross-code game with matches in Newry and Ennis in the last two years, it is fitting that our hurlers should travel to Bught Park in Inverness and I wish everyone well as relations and friendships between our organisations are rekindled,\u201d said GAA president Jarlath Burns. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">Camogie Association president Brian Molloy welcomed the opportunity for players to test themselves at international level.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cIt is a wonderful honour to wear the green jersey and to showcase their talent on the international stage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThis double-header with the hurling-shinty match is another important step forward for equality in Gaelic games, ensuring our camogie players share the same stage and spotlight as their hurling counterparts.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Ireland hurling panel:<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Dan Morrissey (Limerick;
