Update Oct. 20, 2025, at 3:44 p.m. ET:\u00a0Cogeco says it has resolved the internet outage, thankfully much faster than its initial resolution timeline. The company sent messages to impacted customers about the resolution, noting that people still having issues should try unplugging their router for at least three seconds, then plugging it back in.<\/p>\n

Shortly after receiving the message, I was able to confirm my Cogeco internet in Hamilton, Ont. was working again. It also looks like outage reports on Downdetector are on the decline. Cogeco has not yet disclosed a cause for the outage.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a rough day for internet users. First, a massive Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage<\/a> took out tons of apps and sites. Now, Cogeco customers in Ontario and Quebec are stuck without internet and other services.<\/p>\n

Per Cogeco\u2019s website, the outage is impacting multiple services including internet, TV, and home phone. The outage started at 2:17 p.m. ET. Cogeco says it\u2019s working to restore service and expects it will take about four hours.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not entirely clear how widespread the outage is. I live in Hamilton and use Cogeco internet, so I noticed immediately when problems started shortly after 2pm. Cogeco\u2019s outage page<\/a> checks for issues based on your postal code, so when I checked it only confirmed the outage in my area. However, Downdetector\u2019s outage map shows most of southern Ontario and parts of Quebec are hit by the outage.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also no word yet on what caused the outage, which will be a factor in how long it takes Cogeco to resolve the problem.\u00a0MobileSyrup\u00a0will monitor the outage and update this story with any additional information.<\/p>\n
