{"id":93476,"date":"2025-10-20T22:17:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-20T22:17:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/93476\/"},"modified":"2025-10-20T22:17:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-20T22:17:07","slug":"doctor-to-face-trial-by-judge-and-jury-over-accusation-of-sexual-assault-at-practice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/93476\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctor to face trial by judge and jury over accusation of sexual assault at practice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu internal_Body1st\">A doctor has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman at his practice and he appeared before Cork District Court yesterday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Detective Sergeant Ailish Murphy said the Director of Public Prosecutions gave directions that the case against the accused, who is in his mid-thirties, could proceed at Cork District Court but only on a plea of guilty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Frank Buttimer solicitor said the defendant would be pleading not guilty to the sexual assault charge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">On that basis it will have to be sent forward for trial by judge and jury at Cork Circuit Criminal Court but first a book of evidence will have to be prepared.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Judge Mary Dorgan adjourned the case until December 1 for preparation and service of a book of evidence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Judge Dorgan said there are reporting restrictions on identification of the parties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Det Sgt Murphy testified that on an afternoon in November last year the complainant attended for an informal consultation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cIt is alleged that he sexually assaulted her during her consultation by placing a stethoscope on her breast inside her clothing and later carrying out an unnecessary breast examination,\u201d Det Sgt Murphy said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">It was further alleged that the doctor kissed her before she left and asked for her home address.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A doctor has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman at his practice and he appeared before Cork&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":93477,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[2246,54,61,60,43],"class_list":["post-93476","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-ireland","tag-cork-court","tag-courts","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/93476","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=93476"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/93476\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/93477"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=93476"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=93476"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=93476"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
