Out-of-contract monthly prices are usually higher too, so it’s worth locking in a new deal.

Since 2024, broadband customers have been able to ‘one touch switch’ to a different network. This means you should only need to get in touch with your new provider to arrange the move, rather than having to coordinate between both of them.

This incentive ends on 29 October. Plusnet is offering the £145 voucher on the below packages.

With the voucher, it works out at roughly a £6 per month discount smoothed out over the two years, brining the cheapest package down to more like £18.99 per month.

Plusnet’s prices: Broadly in line with other major providers

Do you need speeds of 500Mbps?

It’s not the case that faster always means better, because you might end up paying for more speed than you need – and the extra horsepower will go to waste.

According to Openreach, if there’s no more than four of you in the house and you mainly use the internet for streaming, video calling and working from home, you should be fine with download speeds of 50-76Mbps.

You might need faster speeds – such as 500Mbps – if you stream higher quality video such as 4K, game or use virtual reality.

Plusnet Full Fibre 500: It’s fast but is the price fair?

At £29.99 a month for 24 months, this is a decent deal from Plusnet – and notably it’s the same price as its slower Full Fibre 300 – but there are cheaper options available.

You should also check mid-contract price rises, with Plusnet increasing increasing the price of its contracts by £4 each April.
