The company <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/08\/21\/report-meta-is-hitting-pause-on-ai-hiring-after-its-poaching-spree\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">poached<\/a> more than <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/08\/21\/report-meta-is-hitting-pause-on-ai-hiring-after-its-poaching-spree\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">50 researchers<\/a> from its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-06-11\/meta-hires-top-researchers-from-google-sesame-for-new-ai-lab?embedded-checkout=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">competitors<\/a> by offering <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/27\/meta-is-offering-multimillion-dollar-pay-for-ai-researchers-but-not-100m-signing-bonuses\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">multimillion-dollar pay packages<\/a>, though OpenAI CEO Sam Altman <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/17\/sam-altman-says-meta-tried-and-failed-to-poach-openais-talent-with-100m-offers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">claimed<\/a> that \u201cnone of [OpenAI\u2019s] best people\u201d took the offers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBy reducing the size of our team, fewer conversations will be required to make a decision, and each person will be more load-bearing and have more scope and impact,\u201d Wang wrote in the memo to staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This line of thinking tracks with Meta\u2019s recent \u201cyear of efficiency\u201d \u2014 a more sanitized way to describe the company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2023\/03\/mark-zuckerberg-meta-year-of-efficiency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">mass layoffs<\/a>. At the time, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told staff that \u201cleaner is better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, it seems that Meta isn\u2019t lowering its overall headcount by much, but rather, reorganizing its efforts.
